Newport Pier

Newport Pier, which juts out into the ocean near 20th Street, is the heart of Newport's beach community and a popular fishing spot. Street parking is difficult at the pier, so grab the first space you find and be prepared to walk. A stroll along West Ocean Front reveals much of the town's character. On weekday mornings, if you head for the beach near the pier, you'll likely encounter the dory fishermen hawking their predawn catches, as they've done for generations. On weekends the walk is alive with rollerbladers, skateboarders, and bikers, who dodge pedestrians and whiz past the fast-food joints, swimsuit shops, and bars.
