Staten Island Ferry

The best transit deal in town is the Staten Island Ferry, a free 20- to 30-minute ride across New York Harbor, which provides great views of the Manhattan skyline, the Statue of Liberty, the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, and the New Jersey coast. The classic blue-and-orange ferries embark on various schedules: every 15 minutes during rush hours, every 20-30 minutes most other times, and every hour on weekend nights and mornings. Since November 2001, cars have not been permitted on the ferry, though this may change. Subway: 4, 5 to Bowling Green; 1, 9 to South Ferry.
