Yankee Stadium

Since Babe Ruth hit a home run in the park's inaugural game in 1923, Yankee Stadium has been one of baseball's most revered cathedrals. John Phillip Sousa and the Seventh Regiment Band marked the opening with a fanfare. Many renovations later, the stadium still feels like the place where Lou Gehrig and Micky Mantle performed their heroic deeds. Take a tour of the stadium at noon and 1 that includes glimpses of the field, dugout, and clubhouse. Arrive at least 30 minutes early to buy tickets. Better yet, come for a game: the Yankees play ball between April and September. COST: Tour $12. Subway: B, D, 4 to 161st St.-Yankee Stadium.
