Lauder, the Neue Galerie specializes in early-20th-century German and Austrian art and design as epitomized by Gustav Klimt, Vasily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Egon Schiele, and Josef Hoffman and other designers from the Wiener Werkstatte. The two-floor gallery, along with a café serving Viennese pastries and a top-notch design shop, are in a 1914 mansion designed by Carrère and Hastings, which was home to Mrs. Cornelius Vanderbilt III, the top social hostess of the Gilded Age.
