Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace National Historic Site The 26th U.S. president -- the only one from New York City -- was born on this site in 1858. The original 1848 brownstone was demolished in 1916, but this Gothic revival replica, built in 1923, is a near-perfect reconstruction of the house where Teddy lived until he was 15 years old. Administered by the National Park Service, the house has a fascinating collection of Teddyana in five Victorian period rooms. Saturday afternoon chamber music concerts take place each fall, winter, and spring. COST: $3.
