Barneys New York

Barneys continues to provide fashionistas with irresistible objects of desire at its uptown flagship store. The extensive menswear selection has introduced a handful of edgier designers, though made-to-measure is always available. The women's department showcases cachet designers of all stripes, from the subdued lines of Armani and Jil Sander to the irrepressible Alaïa and Prouenza Schouler. The shoe selection trots out Prada boots and strappy Blahniks; the makeup department will keep you in Kiehl's. Expanded versions of the less expensive Co-op department occupy the old Barneys' warehouse space on West 18th Street and a niche on Wooster Street. Subway: N, R, W, 4, 5, 6 to 59th St./Lexington Ave. Other locations: Barneys Co-op, 236 W. 18th St., between 7th and 8th Aves., Chelsea, PHONE: 212/716-8817; Subway: A, C, E to 14th St. 116 Wooster St., between Prince and Spring Sts., SoHo, PHONE: 212/965-9964; Subway: R, W to Prince St.
