One of the city's best inexpensive Indian restaurants is also vegetarian-only and kosher. Its menu is a mix of southern Indian comfort foods (many that would be served at breakfast or on the streets of Bombay) and expertly prepared home-style dishes. Try the spicy, potato-filled samosas or chickpea-battered vegetable pakoras (unapologetically served with the traditional ketchup, in addition to tamarind and coconut dipping sauces). For some home cooking, don't miss the saag paneer (fresh curd cheese with spinach) and kala chana (seasoned black chickpeas in a rich sauce). Subway: 6 to 28th St.
