Otafuku

A tiny hole-in-the-wall with barely any standing room, Otafuku brings Japanese street food to New York. There are only two items on the menu, okonomiyaki (an eggy vegetable pancake native to Hiroshima) and takoyaki (octopus balls). The pocketlike pancakes are stuffed with your choice of beef, shrimp, pork, or squid. The octopus balls are made in cast-iron molds. Both are topped with a swirl of mayo, special sauce, and a sprinkling of dried bonito (tuna) flakes. Subway: 6 to Astor Pl.
