Alouette Yes, there really is a good French restaurant north of 96th Street. And while Alouette may not be able to compete with most bistros in other parts of Manhattan, people in the immediate area are more than happy to take what they can get. Signature dishes include escargots with garlic, and sirloin steak au poivre with frites. Although the prices are high for the locale, the value is certainly there. And the casual bistro setting is comfortable and unstuffy. Reservations essential.
