River Café

When this gorgeous prix-fixe-only restaurant opened in 1977, no one imagined that such top New York chefs as Charlie Palmer of Aureole would get their start here; however, owner Buzzy O'Keefe has always been able to attract new talent (and customers) by promoting the concept of seasonal-based American cuisine. Chef Brad Steelman's menu remains true to this philosophy, with such tantalizing dishes as Maine lobster poached with artichokes and basil. The flower-filled main dining room has an amazing view of the Brooklyn Bridge and lower Manhattan. Reservations essential. Jacket required. Subway: A, C to High St.-Brooklyn Bridge.
