Formerly the Palace, Avalon has retained its art deco splendor despite a major recent makeover. The rooftop patio has been reincarnated as the now-very-VIP Spider Club, and on most nights only admits celebs or "members." Downstairs the big room hosts two of L.A.'s biggest dance parties: the Brent Bolthouse-hosted hip-hop fest on Friday, and the electronica party known as "Giant" on Saturday. There are occasional live concerts held in the earlier evenings. Club covers range from $15 to $25.
