Hollywood Bowl Ever since it opened in 1920, in a park surrounded by mountains, trees, and gardens, the Hollywood Bowl has been one of the world's largest and most atmospheric outdoor amphitheaters. Its season runs from early July through mid-September; the L.A. Philharmonic spends its summer season here. There are performances daily except Monday (and some Sundays); the program ranges from jazz to pop to classical. Concertgoers usually arrive early, bringing picnic suppers; there are plenty of picnic tables. Additionally, a moderately priced outdoor grill and a more upscale restaurant are among the dining options operated by the Patina Group (PHONE: 323/850-1885). Avoid the hassle of parking by taking one of the Park-and-Ride buses, which leave from various locations around town; call the Bowl for information.
