Selfridges It's near the Marble Arch end of Oxford Street, where blocks are crowded in the middle of the day and at sale time. This giant, bustling store was started early in the 20th century by an American, though it's now British-owned. If this all-rounder has one outstanding department it has to be its frenetic cosmetics department -- one of the largest in Europe -- which seems to perfume the air the whole length of Oxford Street. Selfridges has made a specialty of high-profile popular designer fashions. And don't miss the spectacular Food Hall. There's a theater-ticket counter and British Airways travel shop in the basement.
