John Lewis

This store's motto is "Never knowingly undersold," and for all kinds of goods at sensible prices, John Lewis is hard to beat. The brother store, Peter Jones, in Sloane Square, has a place in Sloane Ranger history, and you will probably encounter more Barbour jackets, velvet hair bands, and pearls here than anywhere else in town -- and that's just on the customers. If you're handy with the needle, John Lewis has a wonderful selection of dress and furnishing fabrics. Many's the American home with John Lewis drapes. Tube: Oxford Circus.
