The Ritz This palace of marble, gilt, and trompe l'oeil would moisten Marie Antoinette's eye. Add the view over Green Park and the Ritz's sunken garden, and it seems beside the point to eat. But the cuisine stands up to the visual onslaught, with super-rich morsels -- foie gras, lobster, truffles, caviar -- all served with a flourish. Englishness is wrested from Louis XVI by a daily roast from the trolley. A three-course lunch at £37 and a four-course dinner at £55 make the check more bearable than the £65 you'll pay for the Friday and Saturday dinner-dance (a dying tradition). Reservations essential.
