Pakhuis The entire harbor district was given a shot in the arm with the five-story showcase for home design, Pakhuis. An 1883 warehouse renovated to house more than 30 design boutiques under one roof, it was modernized by the Dutch architectural firm of Meyer and Van Schooten, who added Minimalist glass and stainless steel to the historic ambience. Don't be surprised to find the editors of top home design magazines browsing here for inspiration, as this is a showcase for the hottest new trends. You can see the newest international collections, fresh from the big trade expositions. Catch your breath and enjoy a meal in the Pakhuis café, then turn breathless again at the fantastic view of the IJ through the glass-walled lounge.
