De Klompenboer You can't visit Holland and not buy a pair of klompen, can you? Perhaps not what you'd don for clubbing, but wooden shoes are still worn by farmers, fishers, and country folk and are the best footwear for wet and muddy surfaces. They're traditionally worn over a thick pair of geitenwollen sokken (goat's wool socks). Located in a former metro station, De Klompenboer sells toys upstairs and klompen downstairs. They no longer make the shoes they sell, but they still handpaint or woodburn designs on them and will also do custom orders. They have wooden shoes in the classic bright yellow/orange color, but also in red, blue, and natural wood in sizes to fit feet from two-year-olds to Darling Clementine. Novelty wooden shoe banks and brush holders are also sold, or you can go native and nail your clogs to a wall and fill them with plants.
