De Kooning van Siam

This Thai restaurant, sitting smack in the middle of the Red Light District, takes delight in the fact that Brad Pitt (who incidentally just went local by buying a home in the Jordaan) once came to dine. It should take more from the fact that it is favored by local Thai residents. Although the old beams and wall panels are still visible in this old canal house, the furniture and wall decorations refreshingly dilute the sense of Olde Dutchness. Sensitive to wimpier palates, the menu balances such scorchers as stir-fried beef with onion and chili peppers with milder options such as the chicken with Chinese vegetables seasoned with coconut, curry, and basil.
