Such internationally statured companies as Dogtroep (www.dogtroep.nl) and Vis-a-Vis (www.vis-a-vis.nl) are specialists in the typically Dutch school of "spectacle theater," which is not bounded by language and goes in search of unique locations to strut its stuff. All or one of these three groups usually take part (with many others of like mind from around the world) in the amazing annual Over het IJ Festival, which takes place every summer in an abandoned shipyard in Amsterdam North, and gathers together dozens of dance and theater troupes dedicated to the more wild and physical aspects of the theatrical arts.
