The legendary Melkweg has a broad programming policy that takes in everything from club nights to world music. This Milky Way, named after the building's previous function as a milk factory, began as a hippie squat in the '60s before savvily evolving with the times and providing a venue for the major trends that followed -- from punk to house to world music. Today it's a slickly operated multimedia center equipped with two concert halls, a theater, cinema, gallery, and café-restaurant. On any day of the week you may walk into an evening of rock, reggae, drum'n'bass, hip-hop, soul, punk, or any other imaginable genre.
