Expedia Price Promise


The Expedia Price Promise is offered by Expedia, Inc or its related bodies corporate (“Expedia”, “us”, “we”). Subject to the terms and conditions set out below, if you find accommodation at a hotel which is identified as an Expedia Special Rate (“ESR”) Hotel or an international flight originating in Australia (“Ex-AU Flight”) on Expedia.com.au and then find the exact same accommodation or airfare for a lower price quoted in Australian dollars  on another travel website (without the use of a currency converter provided on the website)(“Quote”) contact our call centre and we will beat the Quote by AU$1. 


In addition, we will provide you with a coupon valued at AU$50.00 (“Coupon”) for use on a future booking of an ESR Hotel OR a holiday package comprising airfares plus accommodation at an ESR Hotel on Expedia.com.au. An ESR Hotel is a hotel designated (at the time of booking) as an “Expedia Special Rate” in search results on Expedia.com.au.

  1. Valid Claimants The Expedia Price Promise is only available to residents of Australia who are aged 18 years or older. The Expedia Price Promise is valid from the date of publication of this notice and shall expire upon termination by us in writing (“Term”).
  2. Notifying Us of a Claim To make an Expedia Price Promise claim you must call us during the hours of operation of our call centre and during the Term of this Expedia Price Promise on 1300 794 952 and notify our customer service representatives that you would like to make an Expedia Price Promise claim. You must provide our customer service representatives with all requested information relating to the Quote including, without limitation, the address of the website on which the Quote was obtained, the identity of the relevant travel goods or services and the applicable dates for use of same. Our customer service representatives will then verify the Quote, assess it against the Rules of Comparison and determine whether your Expedia Price Promise claim is a valid claim.

    3. Failure to provide our customer service representatives with sufficient evidence or details of a valid Quote may, in our absolute discretion, result in invalidation of your claim. Evidence considered sufficient is at the discretion of the relevant customer service representative.


  3. Rules of Comparison. The rules of comparison for the Expedia Price Promise are as follows:
    1. the Quote must be for the same hotel or Ex-AU Flight and the same itinerary and inclusions (if applicable) must apply. For the avoidance of doubt, this means:
      1. in relation to ESR Hotels, the Quote must be for the same dates, room type, bedding configuration and number of adults and children as for the applicable price displayed on Expedia.com.au;
      2. in relation to Ex-AU Flights, the Quote must be for the same carrier, the same flight numbers, cabin class and dates and for the same number of passengers as for the applicable price displayed on Expedia.com.au;
      3. in relation to both ESR Hotels and Ex-AU Flights, the Quote must relate to a Hotel and/or Ex-AU Flight for which the inclusions and/or cancellation policy are equal to, or more favourable than, the equivalent item displayed on Expedia.com.au. For the avoidance of doubt, an inclusion includes, without limitation, additional items such as meals, parking, free Internet access, gift upon arrival and airport transfers.
    2. the Quote must be inclusive of all fees, taxes and surcharges and any other fee imposed by the relevant website in connection with the booking. The Quote must be displayed in Australian dollars (without the use of a currency converter provided on the website);
    3. in relation to any stand-alone product booking (for example, an ESR Hotel OR an Ex-AU Flight), the Quote must relate to the same product purchased stand-alone through the other website (i.e., not part of a hotel + air travel package).
    4. the Expedia Price Promise is not available in relation to bookings on websites where any of the details of the accommodation or flights are unknown until after purchase (including, without limitation, a mystery flight or secret hotel specials);
    5. the ESR Hotel or the Ex-AU flight that is the subject of the Quote must be capable of being booked by the customer service representative through Expedia.com.au at the time of your call and is subject to availability on both Expedia.com.au and the comparison website;
    6. the Quote must result from a search or a promotion that is both advertised and available to the general public on the relevant website. For example, this does not include a Quote which is obtained through, without limitation, a membership program website, corporate discounts or rates, group, charter, rewards program, incentive, meeting, convention, consolidator or interline prices; prices obtained via auction or similar process; or prices available only by using a coupon or other promotion not offered to the general public;
    7. you must be capable of satisfying all other terms and conditions or requirements associated with the Quote including, without limitation, residency, regional and age-related requirements;
    8. the Quote must be capable of being viewed by our customer service representative at the time of your call conducting his/her own search of the relevant website. For the avoidance of doubt, this means that it must not be necessary for our customer service representative to email or otherwise contact the relevant provider of the website to obtain the Quote. Expedia will not accept screenshots or other purported evidence of a Quote that cannot be independently confirmed by the customer service representative. Nor will Expedia verify any request that it believes, in its sole discretion, is the result of a printing, uploading or other error or is made fraudulently or in bad faith.
  4. Important Note Regarding the Ex-AU Flights The Expedia Price Promise only applies to international flights originating in Australia and does not apply to Australian domestic flights.  An Expedia Price Promise claim for Ex-AU Flights must be made prior to booking the relevant Ex-AU Flights. For claims customers must contact our call centre on 1300 794 952 prior to a booking being made (our customer service representatives will book on your behalf). Claims are subject to call centre operating hours
  5. Important Note Regarding Hotels The Expedia Price Promise for ESR Hotels is available as follows:
    1. before you book the accommodation on another website; and
    2. after you have booked the accommodation on Expedia.com.au.

    In circumstances where you have already booked the ESR Hotel on Expedia.com.au, to obtain the Expedia Price Promise you must contact our call centre before the end of business on the following day. You must contact our call centre on 1300 794 952. Claims are subject to call centre operating hours.


  6. Booking In order to obtain the Expedia Price Promise and the Coupon, you must be prepared to book the relevant ESR Hotel and/or Ex-AU Flight at the time of your call to our customer service representative. The customer service representative will then book the ESR Hotel and/or Ex-AU Flight (whichever the case may be) for the full amount displayed on Expedia.com.au (“Expedia Amount”) at the time of your call.  The customer service representative will then refund to your credit card the difference between the Expedia Amount and the amount charged on the competitor website plus AU$1. The customer service representative will also allocate the Coupon to the Expedia.com.au member account held by the person making the booking.
  7. Other Terms and Conditions You must comply with all other terms and conditions connected with the booking through Expedia.com.au including, without limitation, our website Terms of Use and any terms and conditions imposed by the ESR Hotel or the carrier providing the Ex-AU Flight.
  8. Limit There is a limit of one Coupon per Expedia Price Promise Claim, and three (3) Coupons per customer per calendar month (regardless of the number of accounts used by the customer). Each coupon is valid for use until 31 December 2008.
  9. Non-transferable The Expedia Price Promise is not transferable, exchangeable or refundable for cash and can only be used as specified.
  10. Changes Expedia reserves the right in its sole discretion to modify or discontinue the Expedia Price Promise or to restrict its availability to any person, at any time and without prior notice or liability to you. The terms and conditions in effect at the time of your claim will determine your eligibility under the Expedia Price Promise. No change in the Expedia Price Promise will affect any Coupon that has already been issued to you. The failure by Expedia to enforce any provision of these Terms & Conditions shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.

Coupon (AU$50) Terms and Conditions

  1. This Coupon is offered by Expedia, Inc or its related bodies corporate (“Expedia”). This Coupon applies only to the purchase of accommodation or a holiday package made through Expedia.com.au and as set out in paragraph 2 below. The Coupon is available for use only by Australian residents over the age of 18.
  2. This single-use Coupon is valid for a discount of AU$50 towards a new booking made through Expedia.com.au for either of the following:
    1.     an “Expedia Special Rate” Hotel (i.e., a hotel designated as such in hotel search results on Expedia.com.au); or
    2.     an international holiday package that includes at least one (1) non-refundable, roundtrip international plane ticket with a participating airline and an “Expedia Special Rate” Hotel. The bookings referred to in paragraphs 2(a) and 2(b) require a hotel stay of at least two (2) consecutive nights at the same “Expedia Special Rate” Hotel.
  3. This Coupon is valid until 31 December 2008 (“Valid Period”). All travel goods or services booked using the Coupon must be taken by 11:59:59 pm (AEST) on 31 March 2009.
  4. Limit one (1) Coupon may be used per booking.
  5. Bookings are subject to availability at the time of booking and all applicable terms and conditions.
  6. There are no blackout dates when using this Coupon.
  7. To redeem the Coupon, Expedia.com.au members must first visit www.expedia.com.au and sign in as directed. The member must log into the account that was used to complete the purchase of the “Expedia Price Promise” booking. Once you have signed in the following will apply:
    1. If you wish to redeem the coupon on an Expedia Special Rate Hotel only, you must search for a hotel according to the relevant criteria.  Upon identifying the hotel you wish to book, click the “Book it” link.  If the Expedia Special Rate Hotel you have searched for meets the coupon requirements, the coupon will appear as a ‘Saved Coupon’ on the next page.. Select this coupon and then click “Apply and re-price”.
    2. If you wish to redeem the coupon on an international holiday package, first search for a package according to your specific criteria.  Once you’ve identified your desired package, click “Choose and Continue.” If your chosen holiday meets the coupon requirements, the coupon will appear as a ‘Saved Coupon’ on the Billing and Delivery page. Select this coupon and then click “Apply and re-price”
  8. This Coupon is transferable to other guests for bookings made within the same Expedia.com.au member account to which the Coupon was issued. The Coupon may not be combined with or applied to other coupons, promotions, special offers or air-only bookings.
  9. All taxes, fees, charges and surcharges applicable to the booking, including, without limitation, extra person, phone, parking and other charges are applicable to your reservation, and this coupon cannot be applied to them. These charges must be paid at the time the reservation is confirmed or to the hotel property directly and are the responsibility solely of the customer. This Coupon cannot be applied to the cost of cancellation or change penalties, prepaid reservations, administrative fees or other miscellaneous charges.
  10. This Coupon will be deemed fully used once a qualifying reservation has been made and will not be returned or replaced, even in the event that the reservation is cancelled. If travel dates are changed after the use of the Coupon, then the Coupon will not apply to the changed travel schedule if it falls outside the dates for which this Coupon is valid. There is no residual value and no credit will be issued if the booking amount is less than the Coupon amount. Customer is responsible for the cost of the booking above the value of the redeemed Coupon.
  11. Terms and conditions of this offer are as written and cannot be changed by any representation of any unauthorized person, including employees of Expedia, Inc or its related bodies corporate.
  12. This Coupon cannot be exchanged, refunded or replaced. Expedia is not liable for Coupons that are lost or stolen.
  13. Coupon is non-transferable except as specified above and is not redeemable for cash, prizes, payment of accounts or credit.
  14. Coupon can be amended or revoked at any time.
  15. Coupon is void where prohibited or restricted by law.
