“Hotel Rinno in Vilnius”

A substantial facility in what may have been an upscale location years ago, and will be again in the not too distant future. The staff was helpful, although a bit formal. The breakfast was more than adequate. Our room, #34, was adequate in size, although oddly shaped so that moving around was awkward.

Area recommendations
Being closer to the Old Town would have been nice. For the cost conscious, to get to the airport with luggage, a taxi to the brand new train station, a very short ride by train directly to the terminal road and a 5 minute walk on a covered side walk, will work very well compared to a taxi all the way. The cost will be about one quarter of the taxi all the way.

“excellent Hotel”

Hotel is small but very nice. Lobby area and breakfast area extremely charming with a Classy old European home atmosphere. Staff is extra friendly and helpful. They answered all my questions and helped to guide me on an out of town trip i was interested in. Breakfast (included in my room rate) was excellent and instead of picking up your Hot dish from a "ready Made" selection you actually picked it up from a menu and it was prepared for you on the spot. Breakfast area also had a charming garden if you so desired. Room was very adequate and very clean. no problems. Hotel is within a couple minutes walking from the heart of old Town attractions. excellent location.

Area recommendations
Walk around every Corner of the old town. Visit Vilnius University. Visit the Small but powerful Holocaust memorial Museum.
When to go
Summer only if you have the Option. July, August.
Getting around
No Car needed for the old City Center. all can be done by foot
What to pack
In Vilnius like in the rest of Europe in the Summer although it can be Hot and Sticky it can change quickly as well. A small Umbrella is a must and always pack a sweater with you in your back pack especially in the evenings.
Must see
if you have the time take a Trip to TRAKAI. I did it with a Local bus from the central bus station which is within 10 minutes or so walking distance from the Hotel. It was only a few Zloty each way as oppose to probably 70-80 Euros for a guided tour per person. TRAKAI is a restored Castle on an island about 30 Minutes drive from Vilnius. There is an impressive collection of arts/antiques inside the Castle and worth the day trip . Very unusual and fascinating place.
Dining
The Old town if full with anything you can imagine on the culinary map and for every budget. don't hesitate to try any local foods. They are all incredibly good and the best thing is that many restaurants have an outdoors area.
Other
Money,, always an issue,,, well,, the only "dark spot" on Vilnius especially for Americans (and those with other then Euro Currency) is the fact that Lithuania is very very expensive. The Lita (The local currency) used to be pegged to the U.S Dollar. Unfortunately that has changed. Since Lithuania became part of the EU the Lita is pegged to the Euro. The exchange rate in Summer 2011 was about 2.4 Lita for the Dollar but that is very misleading since there is very little if anything you can buy with a few Litas.. if you are on a budget then any serious Shopping is almost cost prohibitive. restaurants are o.k but look carefully on the Menu prices before sitting down. I did find many very reasonable places to eat even in the most central locations so it is not a major problem and did so with the help of the booklet i received in The Hotel that had listing for all restaurants and also places to visit etc. That booklet was very helpful in locating the type of food and cost involved since all the info was there. If your hotel was a good deal and prepaid in U.S Dollars, including Breakfast then the rest should be fine. Just be aware that Vilnius in General is not a cheap place.

“Hidden Family owned Gem”

A 15 miute walk from the train/bus station. A 10 minute walk to the Historical District. An English speaking staff that actualy cares about your comfort and has information available for your tourism needs. Breakfast (included) is not overwhelming, but plentiful, and if you desire a hot meal, it is cooked to order. The neighborhood appears slightly shady, but then most of old town does as well. I was safe and undisturbed all two weeks. There is a grocery store abut a half block away if you just want a small snack. The wireless internet worked well; I Skyped my daughter several times with no problem. And I found the price to be a lot less than the places in the downtown area.

Area recommendations
Walk around the Old Town, go into all the churches, all the museums, sit outside and watch the other tourists while you sip you favorite beverage, read the plaques (many in English as well as Lithuanian), climb the towers. walk the back streets, discover the old ways. There was a lot more to see and do than my one week allowed. It is a very easy district to get around, except the cobblestones sometimes wear out your feet.

“Decent hotel; very helpful staff”

The only real downside was the neighborhood. I wouldn't describe it as bad, but it was a little marginal (lots of graffiti; we had 1 unpleasant encounter w 2 drunks). Also, when we 1st arrived, we got a 3rd floor room, which only had 1 window. Otherwise, the room was fine, but dark. When we requested another room, they gladly complied, including upgrading us to a better room, for the same price. Can't complain!

“We were charmed by the Rinno Hotel.”

We fell in love with the warm decorating and coziness of the family-owned Rinno. The staff were helpful and friendly above and beyond the call of duty. The hotel even paid our parking ticket! The made to order hot breakfast was a daily treat, delivered by a gracious server. Our room was plenty big,(we up-graded to get a comfortable chair, which proved invaluable when I was ill). The bathroom was large, clean, and very modern. The location was a few blocks off the city center on a narrow, quaint, winding street. The building across the street is in disrepair, making the neighborhood look a little scary, but the hotel has an outside camera aimed where you park your car. We still would highly recommend this hotel to our family, and would stay there again!

Area recommendations
The Old City (where the Rinno is located) was definitely our favorite. The many cathedrals are absolutely beautiful, inside and out. I loved all the Medieval architecture. There are many shops where you can find traditional treasures. Authentic Lithuanian restaurants serve excellent food. Our favorite was the student union of Vilnius University! Be sure to also visit the library and especially the university bookstore, and look at the ceilings. They are hand-painted like the Cistine Chapel! We highly recommend taking a Vilnius City Bus Tour with an English narrator. There is so much history to appreciate!
When to go
We would recommend summer. We went in April, and still saw traces of snow! It was very cold and blustery!

“Carol”

The way to go. The hotel was located in a quiet area with short walks to everything that Vilnius has to offer. Our room was small but comfortable and clean. The staff was outstanding! The desk staff went out of their way to make sure we wound up where we wanted to go with the least amount of fuss. Watch out for the breakfast master! Zima was in charge of the breakfast buffet and she could make pancakes that danced off the plate. A good place to stay for a week or day.

Area recommendations
Old town is interesting and filled with shops both local and high end. Our main interest was in churches and religious associations, purely as tourists. When it comes to churches, Vilnus is known as the rome of the baltics. Don't miss the Orthodox churches that abound along with dozens of Lutheran and Catholic edifices. Most all of the older and more interesting buildings are in the old town section.

“Delightful Small Hotel”

We spent two nights, separated by 4 days, at the Rinno, and highly recommend it. It is on a quiet side street, not far from Vilnius' old town. The staff were very helpful and responsive, and the restaurant attendant for breakfast was fantastic, bustling around, making sure all of the guests got exactly what they wanted. We were packed for a cruise after our visit to Lithuania, so we had lots of extra luggage, which the hotel stored for us at no charge. The only drawback is that there is no lift, but the staff were always available to to help bring luggage up or down the flight of stairs. For the price, you can't beat this little gem of a hotel.

Traveller's tip
Don't rely on Google Maps for driving directions to this hotel, or anywhere in Lithuania. The directions are confusing, and often misleading. Sometimes we were directed to turn, with no clue as to the name of the street on which we were supposed to travel. Buy a map!
