3/5 - Okay
Vientiane needs a lot of development. It is still very old and dirty in parts. The place doesn't have the atmosphere of Luang Prabang.
While Chinatown isn't home to many top sights, Ban Anou Night Market and Mekong Riverside Park are some notable places to visit nearby.

Plenty to see and do, especially if you like walking. Public transport buses are available to some areas for a reasonable price.
Great food, either at restaurants or street food. Safe city. Nice people.
Did my share of wats and temples. Several working a block of hotel. Our stay was 4 days 3 nights perhaps 3 days and 2 nights would have been a better idea. But extra day handed us an opportunity to have a relaxing day
It is a quiet quaint and pleasant place.
Friendly helpful locals, but never pushy. Very safe and wonderful food.
