The highest point on Hong Kong Island is where you can see for miles in every direction over the hills and islands of the city and its surroundings.

Located on the hills of Hong Kong Island south of the city centre, the Victoria Peak Tower affords a bird’s-eye view of the skyline, the huge harbour beyond it and the islands just out to sea. Known simply as The Peak, this is the highest point on Hong Kong Island, standing at 552 metres (1,811 feet) above sea level. Cross-reference the beautiful view with a map to get a better sense of the city’s buildings and all the different regions you can visit during your stay.

Find Hong Kong’s most unique buildings, like the Bank of China Tower designed in 1989 by famous modernist architect I.M. Pei. You can’t miss the 2010 International Commerce Centre, one of the world’s tallest buildings, which rises 484 metres (1,588 feet) above the Kowloon Peninsula. The buildings aren’t the only impressive sites to see from above. Follow the Star Ferry as it cruises back and forth between Hong Kong and Kowloon. Scan the forested hills to see the extensive natural landscape that borders Hong Kong to the south.

Ride up to The Peak via the Peak Tram, which is a 1.4-kilometre (0.9 mile) cable railway from Central that has served the area since 1888. Otherwise, take a bus or car plenty of parking can be found at the top of the hill. European imperialists built homes on Victoria Peak for the cool temperatures of the higher elevations. Until the tram was built, these residents were carried to The Peak in sedan chairs.

In addition to the Sky Terrace, where you can see grand views in every direction, The Peak tower features restaurants, shops, and museums, such as Madame Tussauds. Next door, find more boutiques and eateries at the Peak Galleria. Buy souvenirs, then enjoy an ice cream as you sit outside by the colourful fountain.

Enjoy dinner with one of the most beautiful city views in Asia at The Peak tower’s restaurant. The food is pricey, but the view is priceless. Prolong your time high above the city by following Lugard and Harlech roads for a 40-minute walk along the hilltop.
