Maki is a hotel ideal for first-time Valparaiso visitors who do not demand too much of their hotel. If you are interested in taking a look at Valparaiso's famous arts area with colorful and creative wall paintings, you are right in the center of it by staying at Maki. Most importantly, hotel staff speaks good English. It is also near the Valparaiso cruise terminal.
Place is very walkable to all areas . I got the private room with bathroom and is huge and in perfect condition. I definitely recommend if you looking for a budget nice place to stay.
I had the split level with two singles. The downstairs bed smelled a bit like urine. The upstairs bed was uncomfortably hot. I couldn’t stand up straight in the shower. You couldn’t pay me to stay here again. I wish I had just paid up for a decent hotel. This place is a hostel in desperate need of a deep clean and a paint job. The pluses were the service and the location.
My husband and I loved this hotel. Beautiful accommodations - aged but that gave character that we love - and the staff was always eager and willing to help. The location was also perfect - only a short 5- to 10-minute walk to the majority of sites. The rest were easily accessible by a bus. We would definitely stay here again.

Thank you Laura for the review. We try to keep the old style of the families that stablished here in Valparaiso. We will wait for you again!
We enjoyed one night in this cozy and well-run hotel. The service was top notch, and all our questions were quickly answered. A delicious breakfast upstairs in a lovely room was cheerfully provided; plus, we all enjoyed the noon check out time. Wonderful location too.

Disliked: Room comfort
Cute place but very loud and had a hard time sleeping because you could hear people talking in the main area for most of the night.

Old Val.
We enjoyed our stay. The receptionist was most helpful. We were on the ground floor and when we wanted tea or coffee has to trudge up stairs to 3rd floor to get one. We are over 70. We would have liked tea/coffee in the room. Lots of eating places near by and enjoyed our walk in the area.
Enjoyed walking about town, fun places to eat, lots to see.

Value
A small three story walk up .. no parking .. road noise from cars on the cobble street outside .. the breakfast /room was good value for the money .. had to park 1 km away ..
The hotel is not modern but has great character and very friendly helpful staff speaking good English. It is in the middle of the two best areas to view the street art Valparaiso is famous for. Would recommend it for everyone. Very fun easy access to everything.
Stayed two nights. Not easy to find by car due to extensive one-way system.
Split level room - one bed on each level. Faced the road which was interesting but poor soundproofing and cobbles outside resulted in road noise which was surprisingly not that disturbing as there was no engine noise with a steep descent outside. Non - cooked breakfast OK - fruit, bread, corn flakes and coffee.
We booked a premium room on purpose but were guilted and strong-armed into switching our room (after we started unpacking) because we were told an elderly couple could not be in the lofted room they had booked. We originally booked a premium room because it had a bigger bed, a view and was supposed to be premium, but were told to switch to a room that was below a hostel's standards. Eventually, after complaining we were then switched to another room which appeared to be somewhat near to the standards of our original room, but was right next to the stairs and you could hear every time anyone went up or down the stairs or spoke in the main reception area. We are both strong sleepers, but could barely sleep for over 3 hours a night because of the awfulness of our room. If you insist on staying at this "hotel" do not stay in room 11.
The spaces, walls, windows, lighting, art work, antiques, sitting areas, etc. were simply wonderful and most interesting. The staff at the reception went out of their way and got us oriented. Anita, the owner did the same, and she even gave us a Valparaiso metro card which we used ever day. We both loved this hotel.
Cutest hotel ever and very interesting layout. Spotless room and bath. Delightful staff. Good WiFi (free). Breakfast was the best ever -- not your usual cornflakes and banana routine but virtually a full breakfast. And quite tasty. Fine location with a short walk to major downtown areas, hilltop belvederes, the market and all the sights. Cab from the port was $15 -- but only when I walked away from others who wanted $25 and $20. I shall certainly stay here again when I come back to cool and hip Valparaiso.
We stayed 2 nights and spent our time there doing a lot of walking touring. Terrific location for exploring this unique locale. Staff friendly and very helpful. Definitely street noise at night so bring earplugs if you're staying at the front of the building.

Beautiful hotel. Very nice room. On a street that is very easy to find from the main thoroughfare. Owners couldn't have been more helpful and kind. Really a wonderful hotel experience. We loved it

Nice hotel, great breakfast!
The hotel is an old house and has a wood floor. Great staff and the owners were really nice with us. Our room was in the first floor and when someome walked upstair it was very noisy in the room. That's my only complaint.

It is a pleasure as staff attend to our guests, we hope that the structural problem with the sound has not been inconvenient to enjoy your stay here.
Best regards
Don't you ever stay here!!! Don't you ever book this hotel!!!
We got to the area late at night, the hotel is in a terrible area, very ugly and very dirty, there are many better areas to stay, don't make the mistake to stay in Valparaiso, stay in Vina del Mar

We understand that every person may have a different view of the same things and places, but it is a surprise for us since must of all our visitors and we ourselves love this city which is admired for many people all over the world, reason of why it is also named a patrimony of the humanity. But we understand Viña del Mar is nice to.
Greetings.
