“on budget, good choice &great location”

We spent there 9 days, bc Valencia really deserve that time and even 3 to 4 days more. Hotel proves to be at a good location to reach the beach (bus 2& metro line 5) city of arts and science (bus 95) and on a walking distance to old city. The New City with big stores, cafes, large supermarket etc is on a 50m walk, metro from the airport (take 3 or 5 line change on Angel Guimera to line one, one stop to Turia) is right in front of the hotel, bicycles are available either through hotel or in front of the hotel. Although very boring and with no touch of design hotel rooms are clean, sheets are changed regularly, beds are ok and the bathroom is ok (although no toilet brush!), TV set is old but ok, refrigerator works well, all in all everything for somebody who doesn't ask for much but likes clean room and good sleep. Cleaning staff will not interrupt you if you put the no disturb sign. Bad sides: Internet is expensive and extremely slow. Do not use it at all. Deposit boxes are on the ground floor and cost 2 euro per day. Walls are thin and you can hear every step. We were there at the end of September beg October so not too many guests, and no loud guests, but still every careful step on the upper floor is heard. Staff more or less speaks English and is clear about the directions. Tourist busses stop 50m from hotel. However, do not go to Albufera it costs 15 euro and there is nothing to be seen. Walk as much you can or use a bicycle to check Turia park. Go to Biopark.

Area recommendations
We strongly recommend walking or cycling through 9 km long Turia Park; visiting Biopark, (the beautiful zoo where you can see reconstructed landscapes from Africa, and animals on 50 cm distance, the surrounding Cabecera Park. City of Arts & Science (by Calatrava) which is much much better than on any photo, and check for local events there (we visited a world gathering of paella chefs and the market with domestic products). Mercado Central (Old city) with the best market with fresh and dried fruits, hams, wine, raw fish and Mercado Colon with stylish coffee houses and restaurants (both beautiful pieces of architecture), Ayuntamiento square with beautiful restaurants in narrow streets on each side, Plaza de Toros (Bull Ring), near by Estacion del Norte (North Railway Station), and Rusafa Market (also in the vicinity). In the old city: every single street is beautiful, some walls have nice humorous graffiti (we took photo of each of them). Worth visiting are la Lonja de la Seda (Silk Exchange), near churches (almost every church in the old city), Museo Nacional de Ceramica Gonzalez Marti (Palacio Del Marques De Dos Aguas) showing the history of pottery in Valencia and Spain, Photography exhibition by the Bancaja Foundation, in collaboration with the Hispanic Society of America Plaza de Tetuán, 23 (at the edge of the old city) through mid November 2011. Be aware that streets are in Spanish and Castilian and often have more than two different names.
When to go
We were there at the end of September beggining of Octobre it was warm during the day (28 C) and nice at night (18C).
What to pack
Good walking shoes t-shirts & sweater
Dining
We strongly recommend Forn Pastisseria Dorita, Calle Turia 31 (near the Botanical Garden) with beautiful apple cakes and coffee as a stop between visiting Botanical Garden and climbing up the Torres de Quart. It has much better offer and it is much cheaper than the famous La Rosa de Jerico in Hernan Cortes Street near the Mercado Colon. In addition, La Pastelería de Santa Catalina in the old town at the quart (Plaza Santa Catalina) with the same name is worth visiting as well as two old horchaterias, Horchateria de Santa Catalina and El Siglo. Visit Center del Carmen, (Church of el Carmen, Calle de Museo) the old convent, with cloisters from the 14th and the 16th centuries. It devotes three halls to changing exhibits of contemporary art and lunch at the square of the same name in the old XVIII palace which hosts a restaurant in its courtyard. The food is the cheapest we found and the best, with entrée, main meal, drink, dessert and coffee for 8.5 euro. The other restaurant on the square has nice tapas/canapés.

“Pictures are a little diceaving”

The outside of the hotel and the lobby of the hotel are pretty nice. They have a pool on the roof which is also pretty nice. The reason I gave the hotel such a low score is because it's really old and outdated. There is nothing special at all about the rooms. The elevators seem really old and have a hard time closing the doors sometimes..which is a little creepy. The hall way (at least the floor we were on) was also kindof creepy looking. We had a room facing the street and the noice from the street wasn't that bad but you could here almost everything from the room next door. If you're going for La Tomatina, it's a great hotel as there were First Festival Tour set up there and another bus that left from there and dropped off at the hotel. We didn't have any plans on how to get to Bunol for La Tomatina but bought tickets the day before for 15 euros round trip from the guy who was set up in the lobby selling tickets. It worked out perfectly. Most of the people in the hotel were English speaking but not all the staff was English speaking. I would say this is a hotel for younger groups traveling cheap and don't mind what the hotel looks like. It's definitely not romantic. It was very clean and very convienent but just really, really old!

Getting there
From the airport you can take the metro straight to the yellow line and get off on the very next stop called "Turia". It's only about a 30 minute metro ride and it comes out practically right next to the hotel. One way metro ticket was about 2,30 euro a person.
Getting around
There's a bus stop on both sides of the hotel and the hotel staff can tell you which bus numbers to take. We took the bus to the beach and to the L'Oceanographic. It was very easy and only cost 1,30 euro a person.
Shopping
Directly behind the hotel is an American-style mall (with European shops) and an El Corte Ingles which is a big shopping store.
Dining
The shopping complex behind the hotel has McDonalds, Burger King, Ben and Jerrry's, a Gelato shop (which isn't really that good) and several other restaurants. Other than the shopping center behind the hotel there really weren't that many restaurants around the hotel. Breakfast at the hotel is pretty good but it's 9 euros a person. You can also go down the to shopping center and grab breakfast at a much cheaper price if you chose so.

“Handy Valencian Hotel”

Second time I have stayed here. This time I paid extra for a superior room. Well worth it. Hotel is handy for travel into centre of Valencia. Hotel is next to shopping centre that has some nice eating areas. Will stay again. Internet rates are a bit high.

“Very adequate for our needs.”

Although the internet was not working well, the staff was helpful and pleasant. The availability of coffee in the morning would have been a nice touch.

“Will stay again!”

Staff helpfull, Remember this is a 3 star Hotel! Hotel is close to shops and eating areas! Rooms are a little bit dated and can become very hot and stuffy! Aircon does not seem to be able to be controlled in the room. Opening window helps, however with Hotel on main road traffic noise is very loud. Will stay again. Internet access a bit expensive!

“Great Location”

Hotel is clean, reasonably priced and located right next to a metro stop. You can take the metro from the airport with one transfer. Lightweight shower curtains are a little annoying. Electronic room keys are good. 24 hour computers with internet access in lobby was reasonably priced but a little slow. Easy to get around the city by bus / metro. .:) Try to stay relaxed, no one is in a hurry in Valencia.

“Excellent Staff, Great Location, Good Value”

This hotel is a great money saver. We vacationed in Valencia on a budget, so we chose the Expo Hotel. The service was awsome and much better than the service in some 4 star Spanish hotels that we have stayed in. The staff are kind and professional. The location is terrific. It is part of the Nuevo Centro Mall. There are 3 El Corte Inlges Department Stores to the side and in back of the hotel. It is El Corte Ingles heaven! One of the El Corte Ingles buildings is a supermarket, which is a great place to save money breakfast. There are many fast food restaurants in back of the hotel including McDonalds and Burger King. Our favorite was called Falcon. They have some awsome pastries. There are some larger restaurants there as well, including a Turkish restaurant. Also, in back of the hotel there are some amusement park rides for childrern, including a bungee cord jump. The hotel is a good place for families. There is a Metro stop in front of the hotel. You can get from the airport to the front door of the hotel entirely on the Metro train. There is a bus stop and a taxi stand in front of the hotel. Taxis are available 24 hours. The hotel is 30 years old, so it is not without problems. The decor is not stylish. The room doors slam loudly when they close. The rooms are not sound proof. These were minor incoveniences to us because of the excellent service, great location, and money savings. We love Valencia and we had a pleasant stay at Expo Hotel.

Area recommendations
The River Turia Park is across from the hotel. The prettiest part of the park starts at the Alameda metro station and goes down to the City of Arts and Sciences. Take the metro to the Alameda stop. Exit the station on the Ciutadella side. You will be right in the middle of the park. The half hour walk from the station down the the City of Arts and Sciences is lovely. Also, The El Carmen neighborhood is charming. You can walk from Expo Hotel. Cross the street from the hotel and enter the park. Walk down to the Serranos Towers. Go up the ramp to exit the park. Cross the street at the gas station, walk through the tower arch and you are there.
Traveller's tip
Go to the City of Arts and Sciences and see L'Oceanographic. It has every ocean habitat from all around the world. The seals, sea lions, walruses, and all the other marine life are fun to see. The dolphin show is great. Go to the beach. To get to the beach, take the metro train to Marritim Serrania stop and transfer to the street car. Go to the Neptu stop. The beach is 2 blocks away. Cervecerria Freiduria San Patricio is a good place for a beer at the beach. There is a little exercise park along the beach promenade with exercise machines. The beach promenade has a little movie star walk of fame. The names of Spanish and European movie stars are written in the sidewalk. Lauren Bacall is also there, the only one from the U.S. Go to the historic district of Valencia. You can walk there from Expo Hotel. Don't miss the cathedral where you can see the Holy Grail and relics such as Saint Vincent's left arm. Go Shopping. The upscale shopping in the Ensanche district is to die for. Valencia is wonderful!
