Known for hosting the largest store in the entirety of Scandinavia, Ullared is a favorite among bargain hunters. Its city center is dominated by shops with low prices, while wooded hills and a lake surround the outskirts. Browse the range of boutiques and stores for the best prices on everything from gaming and toys to fashion and accessories.
Arrive at the enormous Gekås department store and wander through the ground floor’s 24 distinct sections. Among the shopping categories are Toys, Flowers and Sport & Leisure. Take a break with a hot drink in the third-floor café, which is next to a hairdresser. On the fourth floor is a children’s playground.
Behind the department store and its enormous parking lot is picturesque Musasjön Lake. Hike through the surrounding woodland and walk out along one of the piers that jut out over the water. Listen to the patter of the large fountain in the lake’s southeastern corner.
Behind the warehouse is a large camping site owned by Gekås for motorhomes and caravans. Set up a tent for your family between the hills and fields near the lake. The campground also provides a hotel and a motel as well as a range of cabins that are partially harmonized with nature.
Enjoy the warm summer weather by taking a trip to the open-air spa, with its hot tubs and grill. In winter, a ski slope opens in the woods. Rent equipment and get lessons at the Ullared Ski Club, before zooming down the hill.
The village is located in Halland County in the southwestern corner of Sweden. Drive south from Gothenburg for 60 miles (100 kilometers) to get here in about 90 minutes and continue south for an hour to reach Halmstad. You can also take a bus here from the village of Varberg on the western coast.
Go shopping all day, before sleeping beneath the stars in Ullared.
