The Turó Rodó Iberian Settlement is a hilltop complex of fascinating archeological remains overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. Sitting on a promontory, the ruins provide an insight into Iberian life as far back as the 3rd century B.C. Stroll along the edge of the cliff and enjoy the excellent views.
As you wander through this ancient site, inspect the various walls and portals that remain standing after many centuries. Notice how the principal dwellings were linked to a wall that once surrounded the settlement. The northern side of the site is still marked by a large, thick wall composed of mud and stone. Consider how it was used as a defensive system by early Iberian peoples.
View the various rooms and imagine life as it may have been millennia ago. It is thought the Iberians here toiled the fields and worked with textiles. Spot the tiles and clay containers that were influenced by the Romans.
The ruins consist of a set of houses surrounding a large plaza, where activities and events were once hosted. Study the seven two-room houses along the former northern wall, before admiring the view from the edge of the cliff. Check out the reconstructed building near the wall that is made of stone, lime, mud and other plant materials.
On a sunny day, bring supplies for a picnic in view of the intriguing ruins. There is a fee to enter the site, which is open daily during summer and on weekends and holidays in winter.
Find the Turó Rodó Iberian Settlement in the northeastern fringes of Lloret de Mar. Drive east from the town center for less than 10 minutes to get to this archaeological spot, which overlooks Sa Caleta Beach. You can also ride a bus to a nearby stop. While here, explore the area for other attractions such as Cala dels Frares and the Castell d'en Plaja.
