“Fairly priced, but inconveniently out of the way.”

This hotel must have been built some 20 years ago but has been maintained adequately to standard; bathtub has evidence of mold. Staff is extremely friendly and took very opportunity to assist and help. Pricing is very fair for this size of room and view – we were placed on the top floor with a wonderful ocean view of the local yacht club. Internet is free however printing will cost $10 per sheet, shuttle bus to downtown is $60 per person one way (HK$ quoted). The location where hotel is located is somewhat remote, the trip to downtown will take approx. 40 minutes by hotel shuttle or if you know the local minibus system one hour give or take 10 mins. One major complain is that hotel does not have an adequate deterrent to stop smokers from smoking in non-smoking rooms. Smoke from next room drifted into ours and stunk up the room, cause - adjoining doors not sealed and smoke leaked in.

“Nice place to stay”

I like the hotel a lot. It has a very nice setting, a soothing place in the midst of the bustling Hong Kong. It's close to restaurant, park, and beach, etc. It suits the people who want a quiet and comfortable place to stay. The hotel has nice facilities. It's probably not ideal for those who come to Hong Kong just for shopping although there are buses outside the hotel go directly to the downtown area if one knows how to work the bus route. The hotel does have shuttle bus to downtown on a not so frequent schedule.

Area recommendations
Tsin Sha Tsui and the peak area in the Hong Kong side are the must-see. After that I recommend the new cable car ride in the Lantou Island. For people who stay in Hong Kong more than a week, I recommend Ta Mun Island, where the scene is spectacular.

“Peace and Quiet”

If you do not absolutely need to be right in the center of HongKong, then this is a lovely hotel. It is situated right at Gold Coast beach, and , as it is part of a hotel and condo complex, there is a little plaza within, where you can find a convenience store, several reasonable restaurants, a coffee shop, and a drugstore. So no need for expensive dining at the hotel. There is also a large shopping mall at Tuen Mun, a 5 minute bus ride away. The hotel offers a shuttle bus into town , and another to the airport, both of which run frequently, so you are never stuck. You can also get very near to the hotel by MTR train. So, you can enjoy a luxurious hotel for a reasonable price and still have the benefit of a peaceful surrounding.

“Nice, but far away from central Hong Kong”

Took my children to Disneyland and self-planned my trip from the Middle East. All was well except for the location from Disney and central Hong Kong. It was my error to not really see how far it was located from everything. We took the green taxis so getting around wasn't a real problem but in terms of the hotel, premium blend! The staff was nice except the front desk clerks were very indifferent, but not a reason to not stay at this beautiful hotel.

“"Excellent value for money"”

This was our 8th visit to or through Hong Kong and, when in business, we've stayed in some excellent 4 & 5 star hotels on HK island. Now retired I look for value for money and the Hong Kong Gold Coast hotel is not only that, but the service and pleasant helpful attitude of ALL staff compares, if not surpasses the service offered by such hotels as the Ritz Carlton. Nothing was too much trouble. This time we looked for a quiet location away from the hustle and bustle of downtown to rest up after out long flight from LA prior to heading back into Australia. Last visit we stayed at a similar resort hotel in the New Territories and were happy with that, but they were booked out this trip so we tried the HKGold Coast hotel. What a win! good rooms with great sea and marina views. Beautiful lobby and restaurants and the grounds, gardens and pools were superb. The food was excellent although a little pricey for the lunch and evening buffets. However the vast array of food on offer and the presentation and service was brilliant. Also, I strongly recommend the buffet breakfast. Great value for money. I cannot recommend this place highly enough for the price. A little far from the airport ($HK220 by cab - about $A28) but the scenery on the way is worth it.

Area recommendations
If one wants the excitement, history, places of interest and shopping of Hong Kong then stay on HK island if you can afford to do so. If the budget needs consideration and you still want all of the above then the next area/location would be Kowloon. For a place to chill out, some R&R mixed with the odd trip to downtown HK then the Tuen Mun or New Territories areas are superb with some excellent 4 or 4+ star hotels at very reasonable prices
When to go
Anytime is a good time to go to Hong Kong.
Getting around
The underground MTR is one of the best in the world. Get an Octopus card at the airport when you arrive to make moving around by public transport so easy. Also you can use it like a cash card to buy things in most shops. If out in the New Territories, the infrastructure has to be seen to be believed! The way the busses, trams and MTR all link up and the ease to move from one to the other easily and quickly is brilliant.
Must see
Too many things to see and do to list. You really need to go online to the HK tourist site for a great list and choose the things that interest you. However I would recommend you ride the tram on HK island for an incredible experience with the locals and tourists alike. From one end of the line to the other and back is ridiculously cheap. The longest escalator in the world (I believe - also on the island) is well worth seeking out and riding to the top. It has many getting off spots along the way where one can access some amazing bars, restaurants, shops and markets. Stanley markets and the Big Budda on Lantau island (by cable car if you wish) are both well worth a visit

“beach resort minutes away from the bustle of Hong Kong city centre”

Right on the two-mile stretch of sandy beach, with a free-form swimming pool and tennis courts, the Gold Coast hotel offers a pleasant getaway yet is only half an hour from Kowloon by scheduled shuttle (HKD30) or taxi (HKD150). Its Lagoon cafe offers an extensive breakfast menu with Malaysian, Japanese and Chinese specialities as well as omelettes cooked to order and the usual eggs, sausages, cereals, fruit and yogurt (HKD146). The evening buffet is equally generous and there are two other restaurants (one Malysian, one Chinese). All the rooms have sea views and are comfortable if simply furnished. My only gripe was the water pressure, that was so low it was impossible to flush the toilet and have a tap running at the same time, and the shower was a barely adequate trickle. However I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel as excellent value.

“In the middle of nowhere”

This hotel is on the Gold Coast. If you want a crappy beach overlooking oil tankers, this is the place for you. Otherwise, stay downtown. I thought it was close to the airport, because Expedia says it's something like 6km away, but that's as the crow flies. It takes almost 40 minutes because you wind down the coast on Lantao and then up the New Territories. It was a HK300 ride after all, almost 20km. The rooms were huge, but they smelled bad as the hotel has a problem with humidity. The gym was OK, but again the smell of mold was everywhere. But, it's relatively cheap and with free internet, something hotels in HK have yet to embrace.

Area recommendations
Stay in Kowloon or Central instead.

“Excellent Service at a Reasonable Price”

I really loved my stay...the staff was over the top friendly and the breakfast buffet was AWESOME! The shuttle to TST was very convenient and helped ease the challenge of this remote location. This hotel honestly has it all...a great pool, beach access, great local piazza with a variety of restaurants-groceries-shopping. Honestly, in my opinion, this is one of the BEST hotels in Hong Kong!

Area recommendations
Everyone who visits should take advantage of the shuttle to TST...then, make your way to Stanley as well as Central...all of the highlights of this incredible city can be found somewhere within those three locations.
Getting around
When you first arrive, get yourself an Octopus card. Taxis are cheap, but the efficiency of the Light Rail system is preferable and a quintessential component of any trip to Hong Kong! A great opportunity for a cultural experience. Taxis are cheap and plentiful, but often the above ground traffic is more annoying than the underground hustle and bustle! Also, check out the many buses available...easy on/off and they get preferential treatment on the highways!
Dining
If you want Western food, there is plenty available in Central, Gold Coast, Stanley and Tsim Sha Tsui. However, if you want to eat inexpensively...go local. The many flavors of local cuisine are plentiful and if you ask for an English menu, easy to acquire for less than $8 a head on average. No trip to Hong Kong is complete without a visit to Taiwan based DIN TAI FUNG in either TST or Causeway Bay.
