I was really excited to stay in the 'Superior Room' from the photos however there is no door, just a curtain which people mistook for a staff area and put luggage in front of. Weirdly no actual roof which also made the area feel less private/safe. The safe was broken so would recommend bag locks too. There was also alot of noise from the other rooms on both nights we were there, which to be fair can't always be helped but it added to the discomfort we had from this experience.

Positives: --Most beautiful lounge of any hostel I've stayed at --Great views of Shinjuku Neutral: --Front desk service was alright, if at times stand offish. --cleanliness (especially of bathrooms) was so so Negatives: --AC was not great and unlike capsule hotels there are no vents in the bunks, leading to what was a hot and stuffy night. I didn't use any blanket and I was still too hot. --Mattress was uncomfortable. --There are no lockers. Granted I've never had anything of mine stolen in Japan but it would be nice to have the peace of mind, plus lockers are standard in hostels anyway. I'm glad I stayed here for a night but I probably wouldn't rebook. Many capsule hotels I've stayed in are cheaper, have better amenities, cleanliness, and working AC.

The vibe of the hostel is ideal for a book-lover. Although most of the books are in Japanese, which as a tourist who don't know Japanese find difficult to read one, you can still see a general theme through the book choices. It can be seen that they had really pay effort in creating an environment where you can 'stay with books'. Staffs are very helpful as well.

The location is good if you’re in Tokyo for the night life. The Book and Bed Cafe is cute but the hostel is not great. The majority of the hostel area is just plain plywood, the mattresses are so thin that when laying on my side my hip could feel the plywood beneath, and the sleeping pods were SO hot. The bathrooms were pretty dirty. Compared to the Osaka counterpart, this hostel leaves much to be desired.

Really cool place, loved the vibe. Beds relatively comfy and quiet. Easy access from Shinjuku station and in a great area for food, shopping and activities/sightseeing. Capsules get really hot as they aren’t air conditioned but that’s really the only thing I would fault.

First time staying in a hostel and first time staying in a hotel with a capsule like concept. Very cool spot. Great ambience in the common areas. Great staff. Really great food in the cafe. You also can’t beat the price in that area of Shinjuku. You’re in walking distance to a million great things. The only drawback is obviously the space for sleeping and storing your stuff. It’s small and there’s not a lot of room for your luggage. The shared bathroom was pretty clean for the most part, but it’s still a shared bathroom. For the price and for the experience and for location, I definitely recommend. You aren’t going to be the most comfy you’ve ever been, but that’s ok!

The place looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for a long time. There’s dust everywhere. Dust underneath the bed is piled up, its itchy and makes u sneeze all the time. The books are dusty too, imagine breathing dust with book smell. Its a bit noisy too, u can hear all movements from top or next beds. It’s centrally located so getting around is not an issue. This place should be amazing only if it can be a little cleaner.

Gorgeous interiors and perfect location. If you're a light sleeper I'd choose another option since the bed pods are essentially in the common area. The shared bathrooms and amenities were adequate but I wouldn't want to be there for a whole week.

The only real problem is the matt is too thin. I slept on it for 5 nights and my thighs were so sore it bothered me to walk. Other than the Matt everything was fair to good especially for the price.

I stayed here with a friend. We loved the aesthetic and the service. Additionally, we enjoyed the breakfast options. However, the beds were not comfortable and I noticed trash was in our luggage storage cubby.

Good location, good wifi. Standard capsule.
As shown in photos, the capsules are amongst a book area. No real division between men’s and women’s area. Only guests are allowed into the lounge area. There’s a cafe in the front (also where you get breakfast). Decent wifi. On the 8th floor. Sheets and towel provided. Pajamas available for rent.

This place is the most amazing hotel I love it so much! It was so unique and all the staff were so friendly — also the breakfast is amazing and interesting! Definitely a must stay if you are visiting Tokyo!

The atmosphere was unique and very nice. Location was also superb. Not the best for light sleepers since the common area shares the same space as the sleeping area, but if some light noise is acceptable, it's a great place

Staying at Book and Bed is a book lover’s dream! The place is beautiful, comfortable, and even has an espresso bar! The staff is also incredibly friendly and helpful. If I ever find myself in Shinjuku again, I’ll definitely be staying here!

The hostel is beautifully quiet and it’s quiet. My friend and I stayed in the superior room. The room got rather cold in the middle of the night. Good thing was the room came with an electric blanket and a tiny radiator.

We already miss our hotel
I had stayed in Book and Bed Ikebokuro before and I already loved it. This time I’ve returned with my girlfriend and we booked a double room. We were surprised that the room has high ceiling and an amazing view of Shinjuku through two glass walls. It’s very comfortable to sleep in, and even with just one curtain to block you from the common area, we felt pretty private inside. The staff were as great and helpful as last time. The books and magazines had many great collections! The only thing I would hope it to be improved is that some fellow travelers have their cases stuffed in the hallway. It’s not very nice and for safety reasons the staff should reinforce it. Also some travelers didn’t understand the importance of keeping quiet, although the hotel kindly provides earplugs. It’s a great place to stay not just for budget reason. I would recommend this place to any young ones traveling to Tokyo.

Convenient location, friendly staff. But I think the common/room area needs better ventilation. The temperature feels ok in common area, but the room can get very stuffy and warm. However, the moment you walk into the bathroom, it's way too cold. Someone near my room had cold/flu when I arrive. She coughed all night, and I caught cold the next day. I stayed for 3 days, and there's way more people coughing and sneezing when I leave than when I arrive. Maybe it's just my bad luck, but I really think more ventilation in common/room area would help.

Great place
I loved this place and it was much quieter and more comfortable than I expected. No queuing for showers, very clean, comfy futon, so quiet I didn’t need the ear plugs. It’s slightly hard to find as it’s in an area where many buildings look the same but I would definitely go back.

Really cool concept, loved the layout and the books. Everyone was respectful in the space. Very good location! The bed mattress are very loud when you’re moving around so you can hear you neighbor tossing in bed even with ear plugs in. The knocks from moving around the space you can hear as well due to the plywood. But I say come to this place to stay! They have a disco ball!!

Pretty sweet style, but It was pretty warm inside and the females don't stick to their side. I'm not shy, but they categorically take a very long time and they were taking up all of the room and i couldn't brush my teeth or shower for over an hour. And the key card thing is difficult to operate when you're drunk.

Amazing book cafe hostel
There is a hostel decorated into a book-cafe at the 8/F in Shinjuku. Need spend time to find but it is so famous. That would not too difficult to find out. If they provide clothes washing service that would be excellent! Alert 1. They sell alcohol, somehow cafe client get drunk staff would leave Client at cafe, separate with hostel with locked seal, and staff would stay at hostel. 2. There is a plaza near the hostel building with dozen of beggars and homeless, advise to select another pathway if necessary.
