“Tallink City Hotel, a 3-star hotel”
Stayed at the Tallink City Hotel for 2 nights in August, 2010. The hotel itself looked nice from the outside. The inside was more of a 3-star quality hotel. Not bad, but not worthy of 4 stars. Room was average. My air conditioning was not cooling the room, so had the front desk have someone take a look at it. Within minutes the maintenance person arrived. He played with the thermostat and claimed it's cooling, but it wasn't. I asked the front desk to change my room, which they were hesitant at first, but obliged in the end. Nice having free wireless internet in the lobby. The location is great. Across the street from the shopping mall, a short block from the old town area and close to other shopping malls in the area. If you're taking Linda Lines from Helsinki, take the bus for 1 euro and exit the first stop. The hotel is across the street from the Viru Hotel. You can also take the trolley back to Linda Lines to catch the ferry back to Helsinki.
“Great hotel”
The hotel was in a wonderful location about 1 or 2 blocks from the Old Town. The hotel was clean and modern with rooms that were large by European standards. The coffee/tea/alcohol bar downstairs was wonderful because it was open so late every night and we could drink our tea late at night in a large comfortable lobby with other guests. A word of caution - the hotel front office staff were not very knowledgeable about the city but a manager did help us with bus lines in getting us to a distant suburb. The free internet access was a definite plus. Since few people used it, we were able to get on whenever we wanted. The bathrooms did not have a tub, just a shower. The curtain didn't keep the water out of the bathroom however, so a word of caution on that. Otherwise the hotel was great and I'd go back anytime.
