“Good but not great”

This hotel has so much potential and was in a great location for what we wanted to do in Sydney. We had a Waterside room and it was a generous size with an amazingly comfortable bed. But, for me, the room was diminished by two things. The more minor is that the premium on the Waterside room didn't feel worth it. We were on the 3rd floor - there was no balcony, and admittedly I am tall but my view was obscured by girders under the roof. More importantly, the water pressure in the shower was woeful. We asked for assistance and they said that the whole floor is like that. It might seem like a minor thing but when you're paying for an expensive hotel, a dissatisfying shower is a let-down. Staff were very friendly though.

“Filthy and staff dont give a hoot”

Bathrooms look like theyre cleaned once a year. Staff were unpleasant and were too busy chatting to each other or chatting to other guests about getting drunk. Ive stayed in many hostels ove the past decade and this is probably the uncleanest and worst run ive come across

“The best location”

We got a great deal through Expedia on this iconic hotel - it is situated literally under the Harbour Bridge so every photo out the window is a postcard. The hotel was undergoing some renovation which concerned me initially but the room was really well insulated so did not impact on us at all. The service and staff were very good. The hotel is a converted warehouse on the Pier so is really different as is just a couple of minutes walk to the Wharf theatre district including the Sydney Theatre Co, Sydney Dance Co and theatres, as well as a couple of minutes the other way to the Rocks. If you are looking for a great Sydney experience I would thoroughly recommend the Sebel Pier One.

Area recommendations

The Rocks is really interesting but the shops are a bit touristy. It gives you a great feel for Old Sydney Town.

Events and shows

Be sure to check out anything that the Sydney Dance Company is doing - they are sensational. We went to their new show at the Sydney Theatre - within a couple of minutes from the Sebel - there are lots of restaurants to choose from on the water for a pre dinner meal and the show was brilliant.

“Beautiful Hotel in the Rocks!”

What a great place -- a beautiful location and wonderful place. It is in the great Rocks location in Sydney. One can open the window of their room and get a great breeze off the harbour. The staff was magnificent -- especially the lobby bar where you can get an ice cold beer and sit outside next to the harbour and take in the sights. The place is so quiet, you'll get a great nights sleep, but close to bars, shops and restaurants -- it's a perfect get-a-way!

“Favourite Sydney Hotel”

Our second stay at the Sebel Pier One and hope to stay there again. Both times we have stayed in a room with a view to the west of the Harbour Bridge, watching all the boats and ferries. It is easy to forget you are so close to the CBD as there is no traffic noise, just the occasional helicopter or boat horn. The hotel is a easy walk to Circular Quay, The Rocks and the CBD. The staff are very helpful and cheerful.

Area recommendations

The Rocks, particularly the craft stalls at the weekends. Manly for its beach and the ferry trip to Manly. Bondi.

When to go

In the off season as it is not so busy, April to August.

Getting around

In Sydney use the ferries.

“Worth a second visit”

Sebel Pier One is in a superb location on the sydney harbour. Staff were attentive and helpful although the concierge service was overloaded at times. Our room was clean,comfortable and cool. the restaurant and bar were bright , casual and service was good. a great buffet breakfast can be enjoyed sitting on the wharf overlooking the harbour. location wise the hotel is a short walk to Circular Key and other attractions on and around the Harbour. great value for money and we will return for another long weekend stay.

“Very nice stay”

Extremely well sited in The Rocks, a lively neighborhood with everything within reach: transport, sea, places to shop,nightlife, eateries and see. A hotel with personality and friendly staff. Would definitely go back if going to Sydney again.
