“Not a holiday at the Holiday Inn.”

Try to do better at the Rocks...postage stamp pool, no gym, rooms small. Good location near the water--many rooms have no view, however. Seems expensive for what you (don't) get.

“Great location!”

We had a great time staying at this hotel. It is within easy walking distance of so many things. The wharf is basically accross the street. It is in a restored historic area with really cool old buildings and lots of alleys that lead to shops and street markets on the weekend. Around the corner is a place called Pancakes on the Rocks that our kids loved. There are many little shops and pubs and cafes in the area. The rooms themselves are a little worn looking, especially the bathroom, but nothing bad. Just not fancy. The staff was pleasant and helpful. There is a pool and hot tub on the open roof with a great view.

“location isnt everything”

having never been to Sydney before, i thought i would give the Rocks area a try. rented a car front the airport for 4 days and did an Internet search for 4 to 5 star hotels. this one came up., I booked a 2 nights stay. I rang the hotel to ask about the parking situation, and was told that they had no hotel parking but did have a $35 concierge service on a "first in" basis. Check in time was 2pm we arrived 2.45 pm. No Concierge service available, it was full already, I dropped off my wife and daughter at a side door { front of the hotel was a taxi ramp} with the luggage and went off to try and find parking. A commercial car park was about a 5 min walk away. on returning My wife informed me that there was no Ported service so the had to drag the luggage up a small fight of steps at the drop off area themselves, and check in. after check in they had to haul the luggage themselves and find the room. The room was cramped and dated but clean. the bathroom was very dated and looked like a bathroom from the 80s -90s, poor makeshift repairs to the tiles where evident, the type of repair most often seen in a penny pinching 3 star motel. Overall very costly stay where the only 4 star plus part of the experience was the view and hotel position. Room 2 star View 4 star service available2 star over all rating 3 star

“Exemplorary customer service, can't beat the location”

This hotel is the place to be for the wonderful views from the rooftop pool and spa, the location is great - easy walking distance to Opera House and Harbour Bridge and right next door to great weekend markets. We arrived, all 8 of us, in the small hours of the day we were due to check in due to a change in plans and were exhausted after a long drive but the wonderful night staff let us check in 11 hours early and were extremely welcoming. Thank you Holiday Inn.

Area recommendations
This is the hotel to be for the location - bus stops and ferries within 5 minutes walk to take you to Manly Beach, Bondi, Darling Harbour, Chinatown. Plus a few minutes walk to Harbour Bridge and the Opera House - lovely cafes and restaurants there. The area here, The Rocks, ideal for the weekend markets and there are a couple of old fashioned pubs and cafes and a few decent little shops. Darling Quarter has a great park for children and is alive with families. The views all around the area are stunning and vibrant. We loved our weekend trip to Sydney - 2 families with children from 3 to 12. The ferries offer an exciting way to sea the sights. We walked to Luna Park, just across the Harbour Bridge which the girls loved. One evening we went just in from Darling Harbour to Chinatown and ate in a proper Asian eating mall - excellent food for a fraction of the price we paid the night before in a restaurant. On a Sunday, you can buy a Sunday Funday ticket for $2.50 each which allows travel all day - till 5pm - on ferries and buses - why pay for Harbour cruises??

“Its True what everyone had told us, Best Hotel in Sydney to stay in bonus its in the Rocks area.”

We were told about this hotel from friends and family. We were glad we stayed there. It was must so handy for all things "The Rocks" and only short stroll from the rest of Sydney, by Train, Bus or Taxi. We had great time staying there. Don't forget their great roof top pool with great views of Bridge, Opera House and Harbour.

Area recommendations
All areas of Sydney have their plus and minus as with any big City. Ofcourse the Rocks, which is close to Circular Quay. From there alot of Sydney's best area's are but a short Ferry ride away.

“THE ROCKS IS THE PLACE”

I chose to stay at the Holiday Inn Old Rocks Hotel simply because of its location. I was a little worried about reviews from other visitors but i found nothing wrong with the hotel. The location to Circular Quay, the Harbor bridge and the Opera house is unbeatable. The little restaurants in the immediate area are great value. The room i had was simple but comfortable and when you turn out the lights even 5 star hotel rooms look the same, besides there was so much to see and do i was hardly ever in it. I truly recommend this hotel and if i ever go back to Sydney its the first hotel i will look at staying at again.

THE ROCKS MANLY BONDI
Getting around
Walking is the easiest although cabs are abundant and to cross the harbor you can use ferries which are cheap or water taxi's for a quicker yet costlier transport
Dining
Along the Circular Quay harbor there are so many restaurants to choose from all you have to do is look at their menus displayed outside and decide what you want to eat.

“Stay in the rocks”

We found the hotel well positioned to all activities in Sydney centre and being so close to the ferries we could travel to Manly and Waqtsons Bay very easily. The room while older was clean and comfortable. Another feature of the room was you could open the windows and enjoy fresh air and the the music from a festival that was staged on the Sunday in the rocks. Yes I would recommend the hotel as for the price it meet all our needs and is well situated in a more traditional part of Sydney with views of the harbour and a period street scape.

Area recommendations
Manly - beaches, surf, sun The Rocks and Sydney City - cafes, shopping, entertainment
When to go
September to November is the best time in Sydney, manly weather is stable warm days not to humid or hot
Must see
Sydney harbour, the Zoo, Manly, harbour cruises, lunch at Doyles Watsons Bay

“Fantastic Location”

My husband and I and our two kids stayed in a room with two double beds. While the room was a bit small, it was clean and very quiet... and I don't think there could be a better location. It's about a 15 minute walk to the Sydney Opera House - and Sydney Harbor and the railway are even closer. The breakfasts are excellent (although a little expensive), and staff is great. The lobby is very open and inviting. We would definitely go back.

Area recommendations
This neighborhood because it is close to some of the most beautiful attractions in Sydney.
Must see
For people interested in wildlife, the Botanical Gardens (walking distance from the Opera House) have the largest bats I've ever seen. And, there are a lot of them (they hang from the trees during the day). We had to walk a bit inside the Botanical Gardens and sort of stumbled upon them. It was a great place to take the kids to burn off energy. We also did a boat tour of the Sydney Harbor with Captain Cook Cruises... I think it's about a two hour tour of the harbor. This can be booked right from the dock (about a 10 minute walk from the hotel). It was a wonderful way to view Sydney, and the insights from the tour guide were interesting and helpful. The kids also enjoyed it.
