Stopped for business, room was a bit tired, flaking wood work, some carpets in stair corridors were stained, bed in room was rock hard and pillows were a bit tired and made me feel a bit ugh. i've stopped in much better for the money.

The Hilton is a brand I would associated with modern above average hotel, from trying to call for early book in to waiting for 15 minutes to book in and then being questioned about breakfast having paid on arrival but not passed to morning team. The room was dated and behind the times from facilities to general standard even after being told a special room had been given to me was he joking. To be honest if I hadn’t prepaid I would have cancelled I have stayed in other Hilton’s and this by far was the worst I have experienced and why do I have to walk through smokers and vapers at the main entrance not what I expect also clear sight during food service Extremely disappointing stay and having stayed at a premier inn the night before 40 miles away I would choose this one over the Hilton sad review

Could be much, much better
The staff were this hotel's saving grace as nearly everyone seemed to be complaining about multiple aspects of it. The rooms are very tired, especially the decor. In our room half the lampshades was damaged. The bath was small and with chipped enamel, the overhead shower was not contained by the glass panel, resulting in the floor being wet and the bathroom door de-laminating. It was only possible to gain sufficient light to put makeup on by going into the bathroom and standing in front of the mirror. None of the heated towel rails worked it seemed but we were instead, given new towels every day. Breakfast was OK but on our first day they severely under catered for the number of guests. There was a gluten free section offering cornflakes, make your own porridge, bread and a dedicated toaster. As for the cooked breakfast options, there was no advice offered as to what was GF and, being self service, we saw evidence of cross contamination. Coffee was from a machine and not recommended. We thought that we would spend some time on the first morning sitting in the lounge. I was told that I could use the hot drinks machine to make us 2 cups of green tea if it was turned on but as I was preparing to use it I was informed that it was £3.50 a cup. We returned to our room and made our drinks for free. Overall, it served its purpose but we would neither return nor recommend it

Bah humbug
I should have expected office Christmas parties and shenanigans, but on my second night, some wag pulled the fire alarm at 11 pm, and at 1:30 am a very loud giggling group of idiots were staggering around to find their rooms. Little sleep was possible. The room was clean, and the staff were pleasant: one can't blame them.

Boxing match function just ending as I arrived to check in, so very noisy in Reception with rowdy people, drinking, smoking, not impressed at that hotel clientele on arrival and checking in was very slow with those people wanting taxis ordered etc.

Could and should be so much better
We booked a double room that supposedly was accessible with a queen size bed. Bed was standard king not a queen and the bathroom had a bath (admittedly there were grab rails) not the walk-in shower I was expecting. Was told the hotel was full so we're unable to change. You have to pay extra to use the leisure facilities which you don't find out until you confirm your reservation. The showers in the gents changing rooms were out of order and it was not possible to lock a locker as they were waiting for refurbishment. We used the hot tub then went in the steam room (sauna being unusable as it was barely warm) before returning to the hot tub to find it had been emptied, this at around 4pm. Looking generally shabby and tired and very much in need of a complete refit.

The staff at this property are extremely rude. The breakfast is inedible and when you mention this to staff on reception they refuse to even apologise or do anything about it. I would avoid staying here at all costs.

The most disappointing stay. Staff were friendly, but the state of the room (mouldy) and you could smell the mould as you entered. Breakfast was very disappointing. £5 for use of pool, yet showers and changing area not maintained. Shower not working. room 61

Hilton has lost its sparkle.
We stayed for one night as part of the half term week. The hotel reception on arrival was good. Quick and polite. The warm cookie on arrival a nice touch. The room itself was ok.. but the corridor outside smelt a little damp. We visited the pool and were told we had to pay extra to use the facilities which i was very suprised at.. never heard of a hotel where you pay extra for the pool? The pool changing rooms were very small. The lockers do not work. Only one pool shower worked and that had no temperature control knob... so it was just off or cold. I mentioned this to the staff. When we retuned to our room we found the bathroom towels had hair and stains on. We assume that the previous guest had used them and then refolded and these had not been checked. Reported this to reception who offered a free drink and suggested to contact hotels.com. i did who said there was nothing they can do since the hotel itself was not answering the phone. So quite disapponted overall in the experiance. I would not revisit.

The air conditioning in the room did not work, the disabled toilet was out of service as was a number of urinals and wash hand basins. Over all the hotel was looking tired and not well maintained.

Spa staff member named Beth helped make my time at the hotel a pleasure and I believe she is an asset to the hotel spa staff. Still showed the biggest smile with the warmest welcome even later on in the day.

Its hard to say about this Hotel. It does everything you would want but its a bit dated. Some of the staff are uber helpful whilst others act like you have P'd them off but asking a simple question. Carpets look a bit mingy here and there. The bed was comfyish. Pillows are feather but you will need to order extra ones as they go flat as a pancake after approx.10 mins. The pool was only ok but (only 1.05 deep) & the jacuzzi wasn't working which i really would have liked to have use of. Please note that use of the pool isn't free, As a guest you have to pay £5.00 per person for an hour. The changing room was not fit for purpose, no space and TBH was very basic. We paid almost £400.00 for 3 night so i would of liked a little bit of luxury. The one true star was a lad called Lewis who organised and then delivered our room service on the last evening. He was very helpful and represented the hotel brilliantly!! Thank you

The stay was ok. We enjoyed but was disappointed with the jacuzzi not working. I can’t swim so only booked it for my partner to go in the pool and me the jacuzzi. I was not informed this when I booked or reserved the spa facilities
