    Singapore Hotel Guide

Singapore is a small but beautiful place, with a wide choice of hotels to choose from. Whether you are a business visitor, travelling as a family or on your own, the quality of places to stay and the variety of things to do mean that this tiny country has something for everyone.

    Past, present and future

Singapore was a British colony for many years, as a key trading outpost, and there are still remnants of the colonial splendour in the architecture. The most famous example of this is the glittering Raffles hotel, where the Singapore Sling cocktail was invented — well worth a visit!

But the city is so much more than a trip back in time. The constant development of the downtown area retains Singapore’s cutting-edge status in the worlds of business and style, and the use of green spaces means that the towering skyscrapers do not make the place feel cramped.

One of the most recent developments is the Marina Bay area. This reclaimed land in downtown Singapore houses several hotels, a large shopping centre and the Marina Bay Sands casino, for those who fancy a flutter.

    Out and about

To escape the bustle of city life, a trip to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is ideal. This is home to Singapore’s “mountain” (163 m) and thousands of plant and animal species. The paths up the hill and around the reserve are well marked, and accessible to people of all abilities. Be careful not to carry food or to feed the local monkeys, as they can become a real nuisance.

Back to downtown, and the areas of Chinatown and Little India are great places to learn about Singapore’s ethnic diversity and taste some delicious street food, surrounded by beautiful temples. Or for some excellent seafood and Singapore’s most happening bars, head to Clarke Quay in the Riverside district.

Wherever you stay in Singapore, the excellent public transport system and readily available taxis mean that all Singapore hotels are easily accessible and the island’s many delights are quick to reach.
