Good hotel
This is my second stay at this hotel. Excellent service. Restaurant is good. Bar is ok. Location is excellent, next to ferry port and metro station. Also, close to Sea World.

Great service, great location, excellent price
We loved this hotel. It's close to the ferry and very convenient. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We booked the executive suite which was very big and comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel. There were a few restaurants in close vicinity but apart from that there is nothing else there. The hotel could be enhance with a pool bar or cafe.

Ok hotel; not a 4 star though
The hotel, ostensibly a 4 star hotel, has satisfactory rooms but with rather hard mattresses. The decor in the room I stayed in is a bit dated (a la 1970's) and not up to the standards or expectations for an international 4 star hotel but adequate. Small extras typically provided by 4 and 5 star hotels such as bathroom amenities, were lacking (except at additional cost). I stayed in an executive room which was spacious. The hotel is extremely convenient to the ferry port at Shekou, which connects to Hong Kong. It's a 2 minute walk to the ferry port, as well as a 2 minute walk to the Shenzhen subway system. It's also about a 5-7 minute walk to the Seaworld area where there are many restaurants, bars and a few shops.

I have stayed at the Nan Hai for many years - it is not 5 star but the convenient location makes it a good choice for me.

Okay but not first choice.
Hotel is okay HOWEVER it's dated. First, there's no WiFi in the room. You have to go to the designated Internet area in the lobby and huddle with other hotel quests to check emails. Second, the rooms and the hallways haven't been updated in years. The guest floors are overall dark and dreary. AND our bathroom smelled like urine indicating that the rooms don't get cleaned thoroughly. The food buffet is okay and service there is good. The pool is clean and underutilized. But okay food and clean pool are not enough to get a higher rating for this property. We chose this hotel because it is located near the ferry port. We were able to travel from Shenzhen to Hong Kong Airport without too much delay. However, if there was another hotel choice nearby or a better way to get to the airport, we would not have stayed at the Nan Hai.

Excellent service
I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. Apparently, it was Shekou, Shenzhen's first 5 star hotel. It maintains much of its former grandoure but its age shows through, much like the high school homecoming queen at her fifty year high school reunion. The service is excellent with an extreamly helpfully staff. The rooms are huge with a sitting room. There is a restaurant and bar on site. The location is, literally, next door to the Hong Kong ferry port, a metro station, and local shops and restaurants. The area has a large concentration of expats and stores, restaurants, and bars for expats. Only unfavorable review is of the standard, rock hard mattresses. Also, I was told that the hotel is slated for demolition in October of 2013 so you may wish to confirm that before you book. Otherwise, I would highly suggest this hotel.

Great, convenient hotel in Shekou
Hotel is literally right next door to the Shekou ferry terminal and only 10-15 minutes walk from convenient shopping and dining in a nicer neighborhood. Staff was gracious and very professional. The lobby and grounds are impressive. My room was a 'business studio", which including an outer TV / sitting room that could be closed off from the sleeping area & bathroom - very spacious and competetively priced; very good rental for the money. The bed was typical Chinese firm, although the bedding was better than most others I've experienced. The bathroom was well-laid out, had good water pressure and plenty of hot water. The small kitchenette had a small freezer/fridge combo, a sink, and a microwave. There was a small terrace, but I only stayed there one night - just passing through to catch my flight from HKIA. I wish I could have stayed longer, and would definitely stay again.

Good hotel if you're gonna get stuck in Shenzhen.
The Nan Hai is walking distance from the ferry terminal, and walking distance to the ex-pat part of Shenzhen called Shekou. This alone makes it a fine choice for people wanting to have an occasional taste of home while visiting Shenzhen. The hotel was clean and nice throughout, though it felt a little dated. The beds were hard, but that's somewhat to be expected in a Chinese Hotel. Overall recommended.

Nice relaxing, well-run hotel.
A somewhat old but well-maintained and very well-managed tropical resort-style hotel. I had one of the small single hillview rooms but it was clean, in good condition, and comfortable, even the twin bed. I normally have to ask for a "soft mattress" to get a foam topper added to the pretty hard spring mattress but this time it was in place when I arrived. Only one 350ml bottle of water is provided and none of the usual disposable amenities other than a small round of soap, but these are the essentials and enough. Hotel is relaxing with nice garden area in back with the pool, small gym, salon, etc. Buffet dining area off the lobby may be the most attractive I have seen anywhere with very nice view of tropical garden. Soft music throughout the hotel. Not really what is normally thought of as a luxury hotel, but everything works as it should, it is very relaxing and pleasant, and all staff are helpful and friendly. When you ask them to charge you in RMB rather than USD they do so (better exchange rate) and don't act like they don't know what you are talking about as some of the bigger hotels do. I've stayed at a lot of hotels in Shenzhen and this is still my favorite.

Good location but too many stars
This hotel is right at the ferry, so catching an early flight from HKG was easy and predictable. They upgraded us to a water view room, and the view was indeed nice. The decor was somewhat dated but acceptbable. The bed was incredibly "firm", hard as a plank actually. The amenities were minimal, and they even wanted to charge for simple bathroom amenities like toothpaste. I question giving this property more than two or three stars.

Still a very nice hotel
Reviewed this hotel a few weeks ago and still as good as usual. Service not as overpowering as a lot of hotels try to make it, but excellent and consistent, and really genuinely good service when you need something. Rooms a little dated, especially the bathrooms, but maintenance very good and actually cleaner than almost anyplace I have been including much more expensive hotels. Only thing that bothered me was that there are no non-smoking rooms in the single hillview category that I booked. Costs more if you want a non-smoking room. Would be better if they were willing to upgrade to a non-smoking room if available at checkin. Smell not too bad, but not great for a non-smoker, and I did book a smoking room since there was no choice at the lowest rate. Or just book the more expensive room if smoke smell bothers you. Restaurants are good. Buffet is reasonably priced and good, especially since dinner includes soft drinks, water, and beer, though I would like to see a better variety of greens for the salad and some whole-grain bread or rolls, and a better selection of fruit at breakfast - mostly watermelon and bananas, and occasionally apples. Outstanding feature of breakfast, however, is that they make eggs, pancakes, and waffles to order - even the best hotels here haven't figured that out yet. And green (Chinese) tea comes in a pot with leaves, not bags - much better, and is refilled. Nan Hai Hotel is older and doesn't flaunt it, but has class and integrity.

Favorite hotel in Shenzhen
A somewhat faded older resort hotel on the coast, but well maintained with excellent and friendly service. Not a western hotel, but in an area with a lot of foreigners, imitation restaurants from just about everywhere else, bars, shopping. Used to be a lot more nightlife in the area but has calmed down, probably for the best. Hotel grounds a relaxing place to sit or walk. Don't expect to get to the beach (there is none and a coastal strip is secure anyway). Tropical atmosphere. Always nice relaxing music in the hotel. Restaurants good. Exceptionally attractive buffet restaurant makes eggs, pancakes, waffles to order (unlike most hotels in Shenzhen).

Communications & service Standard
Personnel at the reception were barely able to understand or converse in proper English. A simple booking for a conference room took 30 minutes to settle after much confusion. The sales personnels' mistrust of us with regards to the settlement of the bill caused us great embarresment when she personally went to a company we were consulting with the ask for payment. Service personnel at the dining room while in general were friendly, but more effort should be put into attention to details and customer service.

Nice hotel
the hotel itself is clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly and and helpful and speak reasonably good english. The standard room is a bit small but very useable for 1 person, I would suggest the next size up if you have 2 or more people. The bed is a typical Chinese style bed with a hard mattress. This hotel is very convenient to catch the ferry to Hong Kong International Airport. For some airlines, you can check in at the ferry terminal, others you check in at the airport ferry terminal. The ferries run about every hour. the surrounding area is undergoing construction but if you walk about a mile or so, you get to a nice tourist area where there is a big boat turned into a hotel and lots of restuarants including indian, mexican, korean, barbeque, and of course a McDonalds. Beyond this, you will have to take a taxi to get to the other areas in Shenzhen.

Nice Hotel in Shekou
this is a nice hotel right next to the ferry station. The rooms are clean but a bit small compared to other chinese hotels. The bed was a typical chinese hotel bed, a bit too firm for me but not uncomfortable. You are right next to the ferry terminal and can take a trip to Zhuhai, Macao or Honk Kong for the day to go site seeing or shopping. You can also catch the ferry to Hong Kong airport and not have to go through Hong Kong immigration. The hotel is near Sea World which is a small attraction with an aquarium and restaurants. The price of food here is somewhat on the expensive side for China (about the same as restaurants in US). The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful as long as your request is not too out of the ordinary. The one downfall is that you have to pay extra to use the pool or the exercise equipment.

Great location next to the ferry terminal
This is an older hotel but well located next to the Shekou ferry terminal. From this terminal one can catch a boat to Hong Kong (Central) and Macao very conveniently. Ferry rides will be in the 50-70 minute range. I chose this hotel for this very reason - I need to have meetings in Hong Kong and Macao. Despite its age, the hotel is fairly well-kept. Internet was free in the room and there is Wi-Fi access in the coffee shop. There is also a gym and a spa where one can get a foot or body massage. Hotel guests enjoy a small discount. The only major negative was the room was kept way too cold for my comfort, and there is no in-room control to allow me to do any adjustment. This is the major drawback in my opinion.

This hotel is situated next to the Hong Kong Airport ferry so you can get a ferry direct to China without any trouble. The service even collects your luggage and within an hour you will be in Shenzhen China. I have stayed there twice and found it to be a friendly hotel and would not hesitate to recommend it. If there was one issue it would be the beds. Seems in Asia a hard bed is the norm, and would have liked the something softer.

Nanhai Recommended
My stay at the Nanhai Hotel was pleasurable as expected. I have stayed there before and will again. It is enjoyable to sit on the front porch at breakfast in a tropical region such as southern China and look out at the palm trees and the bay. There is construction in the area during this stay and that was somewhat disrupting.

keeping close to the ferry
This hotel is pretty good as far as dated, mainland hotels go. It is a little overpriced for what it is, but incredibly useful if you need quick access to the ferries to HK, etc. I use it for short business trips into the She Kou area of Shenzhen from HK. Get used to rock hard beds at any hotel in China, and the likelihood that the entire floor is sharing a single iron. The western food was surprisingly good. Staff bent over backwards at every chance to help, which is rare in China. I would give it a 5 but it's truly dated and needs new bathrooms at least.

Nice clean hotel
The hotel was fine & the service was good but the bed was a single & hard as a rock. Everybody was courteous & helpful & yes I would recommend in that respect. Refrigerator in the room & would have been nice to have a microwave as well for the price of the hotel room. Again, the bed was hard as a rock & as a result difficult to get a good nights rest.

Not impressed with the room quality for a 5 star hotel
I stayed on the 1st floor, the bed was hard & uncomfortable. We choose the hotel for some luxury but found very little comfort in the room. The room we used requires refubishment, the bathroom floor was tainted & the bathroom small. On request i was supplied with an iron but after a while it was taken out again. During a visit to the poolside we layed on the sunbed & snoozed only to be awakened by a rude poolside attendant saying no sleeping here only for swimming. I have never ever been woke up at any pool in such a manner. The other hotel staff were very helpful & polite.
