Shanghai is China’s largest city, with over 23 million inhabitants, and because of its popularity with tourists and business visitors for centuries, we have selected a great range of hotels in Shanghai that offer excellent facilities in the best locations, whatever your budget or the purpose of your visit.
Geography and architecture
The city of Shanghai is divided in two by the Huangpu River, and the two sides of the city show two different sides to this fascinating city. Puxi, the West side, is the perfect place to explore the old town and its traditional buildings. Take time to wander through the old colonial buildings on the waterfront in the area known as The Bund and enjoy a traditional glass of tea. A short ferry ride takes you across the river to Pudong, Shanghai’s new town, which has some of the most exciting modern architecture in the world. To see this sight at its best, why not enjoy a river cruise on the Huangpo?
Whichever side of the river you choose to stay on, the city’s excellent metro system and other public transport options mean that you will be in easy reach of all the major sights directly from your hotel's doorstep.
So much to see and do
With such a huge population to cater for, Shanghai has no shortage of things to see and do. If you love shopping, the number of major brands that have opened flagship stores here will blow you away—the IFC mall and Cloud Nine Plaza are just two great shopping venues that are well worth a visit.
If you looking for art, head to the Art Community at 50 Moganshan Road, where over a hundred artists have open studios for you to browse at your leisure.
Or if live action is more your thing, take in a game at Hongkou Football Stadium, or see what’s on at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Centre, which hosts both aquatic and ice-based events.
