“Hotel Monterey Edelhof Sapporo - like being in Vienna”
Hotel is in downtown Sapporo office building, 5 blocks from JR station, reception on 1-Fl, hotel on 12-22 Fl with express elevator. Our room 16-Fl had lovely view of city & mountains surrounding it. Room: soft gold walls, black & white (B&W) checks around top of walls. Ceiling coved giving airy spacious feel. Carpet: brown & white herringbone. Very contemporary clean & comfortable. Bathroom: B&W tile, nice counter space, good lighting, nice liquid soaps & shampoos, retractable clothesline, towels not luxurious but adequate; washcloths, hair drier, slippers, cotton yukatas provided. Bed: double size, comfortable, nice hard mattress. Small armoire (closet); put suitcases on top. Big desk, OK for computer (no wireless; LAN cable hookup provided); refrigerator, hot water pot, tea no coffee, lots of of lights: ceiling, desk, bed, hall. Easy chair, ottoman, side table, luggage rack, full length mirror. There is SPACE and room to move!!! Windows open for fresh air (concierge has to open with special key). Doorbell - Isn’t that cute? Frommer’s describes as: opened in 2000, elegant hotel embraces architectural exuberance of early 1900s Vienna, lots of marble, stained glass windows, Art Deco embellishments, Otto Wagner-inspired designs, elevators have old –fashioned floor dials, classical music plays in public spaces even in halls outside rooms, small but smartly decorated rooms with slight Art Deco motif, spa uses hot springs tapped deep below ground, a huge though pricey plus.

“Great, convenient hotel”
The hotel is centrally located in Sapporo near the train station and a subway stop. The room was very comfortable and the staff were polite. We would stay there again if we were to travel to Sapporo.
“Gracious and comfy!”
We really liked this hotel--by American standards, the rooms may seem small, but we found it plenty roomy, with modern conveniences that made it comfortable and convenient. Everything was immaculate. The staff were excellent---one day we forgot to remove the "do not disturb" sign, but when we returned in late afternoon housekeeping showed up literally within 2 minutes of our phone call. Best of all---the location could not have been better for viewing the giant snow sculptures during the Snow Festival. Highly recommended!
