“OK Room - but horrible shower”

Everything about this hotel was OK, except for the shower. Old type, clawfoot bath, with a ring at the top for the shower curtain. The ring was way too small, making it impossible to shower without the shower curtain clinging to your shoulders. Yuck!

“Average”

The location is unbeatable, Chinatown, Union Square, and nice shops are nearby, however parking can be difficult if you don't want to park in the nearby garages for 30 dollars a night or pay the same amount to the valet, but it is understandable because it is in the middle of downtown. The hotel is small, and kind of old, but definitely clean. The room was also small and old, and there was no air conditioner, just a fan on the ceiling.

“Basic hotel for central location”

Nice and basic no-frill hotel for a location in a city center. Room on the small side. The hotel is good as basis point to explore the city.

“Excellent”

Hotel Baldwin is excellent for tourists because it is conveniently located in downtown San Francisco. It's literally near everything like attractions, churches, shops, good eateries, metro stations, and bus stations. The hotel has a beautiful old, European charm to it and is super well maintained. The staff members are so helpful and are eager to make your stay enjoyable and relaxing.

Area recommendations
Checking in at a hotel in downtown San Francisco is a smart choice because all the hotels are conveniently located to literally everything.
Must see
Golden Gate Park is a huge and breathless park that every tourist make go to for either a long walk or a short but pleasant bike ride. There's so much to see, from exotic flowers, wind mills, to Ocean Beach.

“Definitely going back”

Cute little hotel conveniently tucked between Union Square and Chinatown Gateway. There were lots of good restaurants to eat at close by and lots of shopping! Public transports were within 5 minute walking distance. The front desk staff were good about looking up places of interest for us. The best part of the hotel was the bath tub which was awesome after a long day of walking. We'll definitely go back!

Getting around
Get a Muni 2-day or 6 day pass. It gives you unlimited rides on the cable cars, trolleys and buses and with the 6-day pass, you get complimentary entry into places like the Aquarium and Museum of Science.

“Old but well restored”

For a historic San Francisco building, this hotel was amazing. The bed (comfortable), the internet (running). the bathroom (roomy and came is wrapped organic complementary bath products... JASMINE ALERT for those allergic to it), staff (sweethearts), location (PERfect--quite literally walking distance to almost everything important), fair sized elevator, with an old building boasting a modern flare. I will DEFINITELY visit again and I DEFINITELY recommend it.

“Perfect spot to stay while in San francisco!”

The Baldwin Hotel is the perfect spot to stay at while in sf. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful! Our check in wasn't until 4pm but we arrived around 11am and they offered to hold our bags for us, and did the same at checkout which was awesome since our flight was at 8:30pm and our checkout time was at 11am. It's right in the heart of union square, about a half a block from the Chinatown gate, and is surrounded by upscale shops and tons of restaurants. The Powell street Bart station is within walking distance(just a few blocks away!) which was so convenient while trying to get around the city. I love this hotel and have stayed there the last two times I've been to sf, an will be defiantly staying there again.

“Surprisingly pleasant”

I expected very little of a 2-star hotel, but I was proven wrong. Very clean and extremely helpful staff left a very good impression on me. In the heart of the shopping district and close to main attractions, this is a very good value. I recommend this place to anyone.
