“Affordable, comfortable, convenient - great stay”
The review title says it all. I had a wonderful time. It was just a quick stay, but I'm passing through San Francisco regularly and I will definitely book a room here again. The price was right, and the hotel - though not a large space - had a bed, a nice TV, a shower, and a sink. I know, it doesn't exactly sound like a rave review, but there's more. Every hotel has these things, but my room was clean, cutely decorated, and it felt like I was staying some place nice. I was comfortable, and the staff contributed to a general sense of ease. My sixth floor room looked out onto Grant Street, which was nice. I like the sound of the city, so I opened my windows at the end of the day and fell asleep to noise of downtown San Francisco. Everything is accessible from this location, most of it by foot, and i had a great time. Thank you, Baldwin Hotel.
“Will stay here again”
This hotel was very nice and quaint. It was very easy to locate and was in a good location within the city. The bathrooms were very nice and the rooms had big window. I liked that it had a very cozy feel. While the bed may have not been the softest, you get your dollar's worth. Free internet is definitely a plus, I easily connected via my laptop and iPhone. I will definitely be staying here again!
“Will choose this one again if I visit SF next time.”
Great location, convenient transportation, nice staff, etc..
“Average hotel”
Clean, good location
“i'll definitely go back”
very good price for such good location! very comfortable and clean hotel
“great value”
great value, central location, smallish room and closet, no coffee in room (but coffee and tea in lobby, small elevator, nice asian-american staff, helped getting taxi to airport, clawfoot tub with double-curtain shower.
“A real bargain”
This is the second time I've booked into the Baldwin. The rates are a bargain. The location, right at the entry to Chinatown, is ideal for exploring downtown San F. The hotel is only a 10 min. walk to Union Square. It's an older hotel, but well maintained. Clean and quiet. The only quibble I have is that the room lacked a comfortable sitting chair; the only chair was a desk one. Also, would be nice if there were a coffee making machine, such as you find in most hotels.
“Small but great!!!”
I'm hoping that this review will convince anybody thinking about this hotel to give it a try. I traveled to SF with my kids, ages10 and 13. I booked the Baldwin based on it's location, price and reviews from other websites. The Baldwin is a small hotel just steps from the gate to Chinatown. It is either in walking distance to the sites, or in walking distance to the transportation to get you there. Our room was small, but very clean. And who needs a big room when you're out seeing the sites all day?? We were on the 6th floor facing an alleyway, but I think that helped to cut down on some of the street noise. But you are in downtown SF, it isn't going to be silent at night. Let's just say it never kept us awake. We did see a few "questionable" people on the streets, at times, but we ignored them and they left us alone. And this occured close to the hotel only once. We walked ALL OVER the city during the day without problems. All of the front desk staff was extremely helpful with maps, directions, suggestions for meals, etc. Also, hotel management was very quick to respond when I emailed them prior to our trip asking abt options for getting to the hotel from the airport. We did not rent a car in the city, so I can't comment on the parking. But again, the hotel is obviously an older building, but very well maintained and neat as a pin. My 10yr old daughter especially looked forward to the towel origami left on our beds each night. A great stay!!!!
“Great Location”
We enjoyed our 3 night stay at the Baldwin. Being a first time visitor to San Francisco, this hotel was in a prime location to get to some of the first time sights San Fran has to offer! It is an older hotel but offered the charm that comes with the beauty of the city. There is no restaurant in the hotel, but restaurants and coffee shops are plentiful in this area along with a variety of shopping from high end stores to the bargains China Town (1/2 block) has to offer. Maybe a small downside was the outdoor noise you could hear in your room at night (traffic, trash trucks, etc.) Although I was never bothered by the noise, we did vaca with 2 other couples, and they mentioned the outdoor noise at times that they could hear from their room. I would definately stay there again...great place for couples!
