I booked this hotel quite last minute but was swayed by the modern looking facilities. It’s a lovely boutique hotel with only 9 rooms so feels really personal and quiet. Although situated above a bar, we never heard any outside noise nor did we hear anything from other guests. We stayed for 3 nights and found the staff were super approachable, kind and friendly. The location is great and close to lots of bars and restaurants, whilst still being walkable to main sites, but far enough to be away from big crowds. It’s not too far from a metro, which has great links to the airport. Our room was impeccably cleaned daily and was nothing short of ideal! Breakfast had great choices and was a great start to a busy day including things such as pastries, cold meats and cereals. We would definitely recommend this hotel and would return whenever in Rome!

Receptionists were very friendly, helpful and talkative. The morning breakfasts were great and there were many options also a great coffee machine that made a number of different types of coffee at the touch of a button. The bed was also very comfortable. All in all a great hotel and a freat comfortable stay in Rome.

Lovely place, Staff is super nice & friendly. We arrived 2:30am, all ready, meet & great & set. Room is big, nice setup, great view, clean, tidy, breakfast was good... Can walk to major attractions. 3min to hop on-off bus stop.

Upon our arrival my friends and I were greeted with great hospitality thanks to the lovely receptionist who helped us out! The rooms are clean, with ample space and the shower is fabulous. The location is superb with just a 5 minute walk to the gardens. If you’re thinking of staying here, look no further, you’ll encounter great service and clean and modern facilities.

Excellent hotel in Rome. Totally walkable to sights like the Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps, Pantheon and Villa Borghese. Close to public transit as well. Quiet, clean with a friendly and helpful staff.

Lovely small boutique hotel.
Fantastic boutique hotel, staff were very professional and friendly, and could not do enough to help you.Room was big, and very clean. The breakfast was superb, small hotel , which was very quiet. Would definitely recommend this, hidden gem next to Harrys bar.

The main entrance doesn’t look like a 3 stars hotel. The hotel doesn’t even offer free water as courtesy. There’s nothing special about this hotel.

A Great Stay
Great hotel with friendly staff! My train arrived very late in the evening, and The Shire made sure to have a staff member there to check me in. The staff also helped me arrange transport to the airport when I had to check out very early in the morning.

The service was ok. The state of the the room was not great, it had a very bad smell and needed a good clean. The walls were all marked, the carpet was filthy as was the chair. The bathroom had a very bad smell, the shower was mouldy, the towels were like rags and needed to be thrown out and just generally needed a good clean. Overall it was just disappointing and I would not recommend to stay here.

Absolute worst experience I have ever had with a hotel. When I arrived late at night, there was a leak in the AC and it was dripping on the floor. Since it was late, nobody could come to fix it until the next day. Between the smell and the noise, I could not sleep. I had to move down the street and pay for another hotel, which I informed the Shire about. I stayed at the Shire the second night. I was nothing but nice and understanding, and I did not make a fuss. However, I have reached out 3 times regarding a refund for the first night, or any sort of compensation, and I have not heard back. I have tried through Expedia, and they informed me the Shire refuses to give me a refund. Extremely frustrating and rude staff. I would like a response at the absolute minimum. No apology or anything. Avoid at all costs.

Overall, I’m satisfied with everything. Just wish that the sink could drain down the water faster and the bathroom offered more space to put your belongings. The hotel has the access to the elevator so it’s convenient to take your heavy luggages to the hotel. AC works great both in the lobby and in the room for the hot summer in Rome.

Positive: breakfast, clean room. Negative: air condition broken and given a small stand one.TV was broken. Be aware that it is on the second floor of a commercial building. Desk staff is not there 24/7. Noise with bar down stair. Small elevator. Not really a hotel feel.

Dear Ms. Stephanie, unfortunately we had some problems on our AC system in those days. We are very sorry about it. It wasn’t our fault, sadly it regarded a leak of electricity which affected part of the city center. Now we have solved the problem. Regarding the TV we tested it and it works and actually we aren’t on the second floor, our is the main floor (1st). In relation to the noise, keep in mind that we are happy to be in the city center of Rome where you could possibly hear some light noise specially in this warm and beautiful season even though we have soundproof windows.The hotel staff is present in the structure every day. We absolutely loved our stay here. The staff were amazing and so helpful. The room was large and clean. The area was perfect and you could walk to many different key sites. They provided some recommendations for dining within walking distance and which were amazing! The complimentary breakfast was so nice. We had a small issue with our bill which they were able to fix immediately. The staff offered to arrange transportation for us from the port and to the airport at a very reasonable price. The hotel is above a well known restaurant and bar, it can be a little noisy later in the evening with the windows open, but with closed windows it is soundproof and very quiet. Would recommend to anyone and stay there again if we return to Rome.

A Great Spot
The Shire was a great place to stay for a few days in Rome. Right next to the Borghese Gardens and nicely located at the top of Via Veneto. The room was bright and beautifully appointed, the staff were friendly and the breakfast was varied and delicious. What a great find!

It was very disappointing to arrive and not actually find a boutique hotel of what was expected. It is like an apartment building, you won't even find any hotel entrance. Reception is just a desk. The room was very small. And the breakfast not interested.

Staying at the hotel was a great experience! The room was really nice, clean and spacious! The hotel is great value for the money and is a short distance from the most popular attractions like for example the colloseum.

A little tough to find
My wife and I had a great stay here and would definitely come back. As other reviews have stated, the place is a little tricky to find so be sure to use the big wooden door next to Harry’s Bar; After that, climb the stairs. In Italy, the first floor is considered Zero and the Second Floor Starts Level One. The Hotel is located up the stairs (Italian Level One). Other than that, Great Place! We look forward to going back!

Pros- quiet, easy walk to the sites, daily housekeeping,large shower with hot water. Breakfast with coffee and small bites. Cons- no sign to identify the place outside. Hard to find initially. Bed hard as a rock. Front desk was touch and go. Overall it was a great stay. We were not in the room all that much so it was a place to sleep and shower whilst visiting all the sites.

Convenient location for a short stay city break in the historical area of Rome. Unfortunately it was disappointing to find the room had no coffee making facilities, the toilet seat was elevated which meant my wife who is 5ft 4" tall was unable to put her feet on the ground, and finally again my wife was unable to reach the pole in the wardrobe to hang her clothes up.
