This popular park, with live music and nature walks, is designed around a 17th-century lake that once supplied Malmo with its drinking water.

Pildammsparken is a 45-hectare (111-acre) park with woodlands, perennial gardens and lakes. It was designed by Swedish architect Ferdinand Boberg, with the purpose of housing the 1914 Baltic Exhibition. Today it is a popular destination for recreation and events.

The Baltic Exhibition of 1914 was a celebration of the industry and culture of the countries that bordered the Baltic Sea. Begin a tour of the park at the Margaret Pavilion, named after the former crown princess of Sweden. This is one of the few buildings still standing that was created for the Baltic Exhibition. From the pavilion is the Kronprinsessan Margaretas Blomstergatan (Flower Street). During the spring and summer months flowerbeds are designed according to a theme, such as the painting Water Lilies by Monet. Next to this is a rose garden dedicated to Queen Silvia of Sweden.

Explore the century-old tower known as the Pildammstornet, located on the east of the park’s biggest lake. In the early 1900s this was a water tower. Today, it houses the Pildammstornet Galleri where art exhibitions are held. Young visitors will enjoy the sound and light displays in the park. In the warmer months the three water fountains play classical music and light up the lake.

In summer, the park is host to a number of outdoor events, including the Sommarscen festival. Events are held in the Pildammsteatern amphitheater and the Tallriken, a big circular lawn surrounded by woodlands. See cultural dance shows or listen to jazz, reggae or rock bands. Discover new artists and enjoy well-loved favourites. Look on the official Sommarscen festival website for a detailed schedule of events.

Pildammsparken is a 25-minute walk from Malmo’s city centre and is situated in the Kronoborg neighbourhood. A small car park offers four hours of free parking a day. Parking spaces fill up quickly on the weekends and public holidays. The park is also accessible by public bus and train, which stop nearby. Pildammsparken is open 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year and it is free to enter.
