"The mardi gras is a good budget hotel. I like the fact that it was low-key, and only 15 mins from the strip. The rooms were nice enough, and I appreciated the smoking room, given I come from utah and can't even smoke in my own place.
The pool was nice, the water was cool and clean, which was a godsend in the sweltering heat.
The hurricane alley would've been a nice experience had I been served. While I don't doubt that the food would've been a great value, both times I tried visiting were stifled by no wait staff being available.
A simple scheduling mistake mixed up my reserved smoking room on my first day, which was a slight hiccup, but the staff were more than helpful and friendly when it came time to correct it.
The building is kind of old, and is styled similarly to a hacienda, which is a bit of charm that I enjoy. My only real gripe was the holding fee.
I believe both Expedia and the hotel are to blame for my assumption that the $23 resort fee was the only fee I would have to pay upon check-in. However, when I arrived I was surprised by a $100 holding fee on top of the $23 resort fee. Needless to say, this surprise but quite the damper on my vacation. What was more frustrating was that (just like every other establishment), they can withdraw the money instantly, yet when refunding even a hold, i was informed I would have to wait 3-5 days.
This was also frustrating considering I had to walk from the hotel to the airport due to my deposit not being refunded day of."
