At the point of booking we advise all our guests we have only shared facilities,. Our building is a heritage listed pub stay and this also means power was only ever allowable at ground level. If requested we allow power points to be sued in other areas

This was our third time at this hotel and whilst it has had a facelift there were a couple of concerns: the room was clean but dusty (not good for someone with hayfever), the queen size bed seemed to have sagged in the middle which made it difficult to get comfy.

Found the cleanliness not up to scratch. eg. the doona inside the sheets were disgusting. They obviously dont get checked regularly for cleanliness

laundry and linen is changed daily. Our house keepers are diligent when it comes to marks on linen but as we use House with No Steps as our linen provider, sometimes things get missed. Our utmost apologies

Classic Pub Accommodation - Clean, Tidy, Good Food
Clean and tidy room above a renovated heritage pub. Check in at bar but separate entrance into guest rooms. Good-sized twin room. Shared bathroom, with separate male and female bathrooms and showers had locking doors. Kitchenette in hallway with kettle,toaster, fridge, tea, coffee and milk. Plenty of onstreet parking. Only downside was very little storage space (fine for one night but might be a problem if you were staying a week) and we were a bit cold during the night as thin doonas and no extra blankets. However, there was RC/AC in the room, we didn't want it on during the night. Pub served bar meals until late - pizza, burgers etc - plus a good restaurant. Wi-fi available if you asked. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good value for money and convenient to where we needed to be at 6am the next morning.

Carrington is a quiet and pleasant area of Newcastle with lovely old buildings, waterfront and parks. Carrington Place is excellent value if you don't mind sharing a bathroom. There are plenty of cafes within walking distance, none of which I have ever sampled as they are not open when I leave for my business purpose. The restaurant on site offers fine dining, with a fixed price for two courses on Tuesdays. There is a less formal option of pizza or other "tapas" style food in the front bar which I can also recommend from previous experience. Remember that light switches are hanging from the ceiling (pull a cord) - I have spent a frustrating few minutes trying to light the room running my hand over the wall beside the door. Also annoying - the many power outlets around the room are very low to the ground and may not fit your charger or laptop cord. Look up - the TV has a power outlet higher on the wall with a spare socket!

Hi Laan Thanks for the feedback - with the power sockets down low this is due to the Heritage listing of the building. When you stay with us just let us know you require a power board and this can be organised. We did initially place them in all rooms but found that they would go missing so this is the better option for us. We look forward to seeing you again. Regards LeeAnne

Amazing food
They have a great selection of tasty craft beers, but where they really excel is in the restaurant. The service is great and the food at another level to anywhere in the region. Highly recommend the meal deals on Tuesday and Wednesday.

CLEAN AND COMFORTABLE
This was our 2nd stay at Carrington Place. We stay here because it is convenient for what we want to do in the area but I think it is a bit over-priced for what you get. We stay in the only room that has it's own bathroom but it can't be locked from the inside but someone could lock you inside it. It also has another door that leads out into the dining room I think. It is locked but it still feels a bit strange that you think someone could come through that way if they wanted to. There is no little fridge in the room and no phone. There's no extra pillows, blankets or towels and the staff leave around 9pm and you are 'home alone' and have a code number to get into the hotel. The room is very clean and the bed is comfortable.

Far too noisy until after 11:30pm. The high level of noise was unexpected and unacceptable.. The room was clean but the mattress slumped.

I booked this place online while we were on our way to Newcastle, the images looked great online so I booked and paid for it. Unfortunately I didn't take notice of the style of room and when we got there it was a Pub and the rooms were upstairs. The room I booked was a twin but, I kept an open mind got the key and went into the room and the beds were smaller than a single, if thats at all possible but, it got worse because the toilet and bathroom facilities were down the hall!!! I dropped the key back into the box and left the hotel and booked another room elsewhere which was new and beautiful with coffee and tea making facilities in the room but more importantly it had a bathroom. This simply taught me a valuable lesson to take note of what I was booking and check the reviews carefully.

The exterior of our building is an old pub - we are a restaurant / bar / guesthouse. We dont have loud music all night. We do advertise that we have shared bathroom facilities - this is due to the heritage listing of the building on renovation we were not permitted to have rooms with bathrooms in them. Our single beds are standard size - sorry you didnt think that they were. If you had spoken with the staff at the time we may have been able to accomodate you in a room with its own bathroom - we have one. Regards LeeAnne Webster Manager

Please dont get me wrong, this is a great place to stay if you are after just a bed in a room and on a budget but we didn't get what we were expecting by any means. Its a done up old motel with shared bathrooms, old beds and blankets and an hugely over priced resturant. Would not highly suggest unless for a 1 nighter. Really dissapointed. Everything is shared - fridge, bathrooms, forks, knieves (also no plates or bowls available!). Asked to pay for an upgrade got told that wasnt possible.

I am sorry that you didnt enjoy your stay with us. As a heritage listed building we not able to change any of the layout for the guest rooms upstairs. In the 1920's to the 1970's we were a wharfies pub. On renovation we were only able to have one room with Ensuite for disabled access. This room is popular and booked out on the night you stayed with us hence no option for an upgrade. All shared amenities are advertised that way and I am sorry there were no plates or bowls available in the kitchenette. Our housekeepers replenish daily, our staff would have been only too happy to get some more for you had you let us know. Again sorry you did not enjoy your stay with us. LeeAnne

I was a bit taken a back when I first found out my secretary had booked me a room with no shower and toilet, but that, along with not having a fridge in my room were the only things I could fault about this place. The staff were fantastic, the food was incredible and they have $5 pints on a Friday arvo (can't beat that). Overall, I was very pleased with my stay and would definitely consider staying there again, next time I'm in town.

Small room and shared bathroom is uncomfortable.
Carrington place is not a 4 star hotel. Condition more close to Motel. I don't know how 4star hotel could have that condition. Couldn't have blackfast and room was very small. Shared bathroom not for next time. Not worth to pay $110 for small room. Outside only veiw I could see was factory roof.

Having stayed here previously, I left quite a positive review. This time, I came away slightly disappointed. Last time I was here (2 months earlier), the price was $89/night. This time it was $99/night. Fair enough. I understand the need for prices to go up. (11.2% increase). What was unexpected was having made a booking online that included breakfast only to be told upon arrival that they no longer served breakfast. It may have been helpful to have some transparency around this prior to my arrival. I was then provided a voucher that provided a $10 credit at a store that was 3.4km away. Even though it was in the opposite direction to where I needed to go, I got in my car to check it out. Upon presentation of my voucher I was alerted to the small print that said the credit can only be redeemed if I spent $25!!!!! I can't imagine that the provision of the basic breakfast was a huge expense. I have a booking to return this coming Thursday. Sadly, I am about to canvass other options.

Carrington Place, in Newcastle's old industrial/port heart, is a charming little reinvention of what was obviously once a blue collar working man's pub. The staff are wonderful, and it's a fairly central launching pad for exploring greater Newcastle and the Hunter Valley. The restaurant looked pretty good, however there was a wedding on the night I arrived so I was unable to try, but luckily there's other good options within walking distance. Obviously, be prepared for the shared bathroom situation, as it's very much first in best dressed, and if you can, try to get a room away from the bathroom areas - simply to avoid the high foot traffic noise. Otherwise it's clean and nice and a good budget alternative to more costly stays.

Carrington Place was very clean but the room didn't have a small fridge; a power point to recharge a phone except in the bathroom; no phone in the room; no hand-towels (even though I'd requested them but they never arrived); bath mats; face washers; shampoo or real soap. Plus you couldn't lock the bathroom from the inside, only from the outside so you'd hope no-one would lock you in there accidentally. Overall, the room was a good size.

Convenient location, good food & jazz Thursdays
Like this hotel, very convenient location close to the city centre; the restaurant is good and always enjoy the jazz band on Thursday nights. The rooms with shared bathroom are fine for me travelling alone but prefer the ensuite room when the wife is with me. Have stayed at this hotel a couple of times now and been for dinner /drinks on several other occasions and its always been a good experience.

Beautiful corner pub.
I booked last minute and only had the photos on the website to go off which are normally misleading. When I arrived I was greeted by the Manager and he seemed genuinely interested in what I had been up to that day and why I was in Newcastle for the night. The pub was clean and very nicely renovated. The rooms and bathrooms have all been renovated recently and are very nice. The FOOD is delicious! They have a pub menu in the pub area and a restaurant in the tastefully renovated restaurant. I ate in the pub area and the food was yum! Highly recommend the quesadilla! The staff the following morning were just as nice as the night before. You get a complimentary breakfast with your stay! Boom! If I had to fault something about this beautifully presented and well staffed establishment... Check out is at 10am, which I know is pretty standard but on a hangover it can be a mission.

Lovely hotel, lovely service, arrogant chef
My partner and I had a wonderful experience with the hotel and the owner/manager lady, she was so wonderful, welcoming, etc. The chef however had horrific attitude, half decent food and ruined our last night's dinner at the pub/restaurant. I would recommend he either retire or change jobs if the restaurant is to survive.
