Looking for a cheap/clean/safe place to sleep. Do it!

Candy Hostel was a huge money saver and reason why mine and my friends trip to New York was so memorable. We paid for a dormitory 4-6 bunk room. But to our pleasant surprise we were given our own room. The room was small, had a bunk bed, one outlet and a fan in the window. This was fine. The room was clean, the bathroom down the hall was clean. It was a good firs hostel experience. The only complaint I had was that the A/C did not work, we could only have the unit on fan mode. This meant 85 degree nights. We only needed a place to sleep and after walking throughout the city all day we were exhausted and didn't really notice the heat in the room. Looking for a cheap, clean place to sleep in Manhattan, go with this hostel. Its in a good/easy to find area right by central park. Besides the stuffy and hot room at night, no complaints.

Neighbourhood recommendations: Everywhere.

Good economic option

If you are thinking to use this kind of hotel just for sleeping, it is OK. You only get a small room with a bed and no more furniture (not TV, neither a chair nor a closet). The location is good, because the neighborhood is good and you have a Metro station very close. There is a big opportunity with the cleanliness: the blanket was dirty and they did not clean the bathroom (shared bathroom) periodically. If you are thinking to rent a car, forget this option, there is a big problem for the parking. But this is a problem in all New York, isn't it? At the end, I think what you get for the price, it is Ok.

You get what you pay for......

Cleanliness is just unacceptable....even for a guy like me who just stayed two nights because I had to attend an orientation for college. the towels they provided were nothing like the washed ones...I found stains on it....by recalling this fact, I feel disgusted. I found hair all over the place, the carpet, the pillow, the bedsheets, the blanket, yup, that s all what they provided there. second off, no internal lock from the room (the chain lock thingy from providing whoever s outside to enter to room) , there was just no sense of security at all to me, I had to move my bed towards the door and block it to ensure my own safety. I completely found no reason to return there, I will be moving to New York City soon, and this will always be one of my nightmares. If you are one of those who are not restrained by budget that seriously, I STRONGLY recommend you to pay extra dollars for fundamental safety, hygiene and sense of satisfaction.

Shocked and appalled!

Asked everyday for room service, got the run around, never recieved it. They were filming a movie and we had to keep walking through all kinds of crap. Hard to find someone when you needed to ask a question

Neighbourhood recommendations: Time square definately. It would be worth the extra money

Candy Hostel -- Comfortable Stay

Candy Hostel offers comfortable accommodations at inexpensive rates (for Manhattan). The hostel is only about 1 and a half blocks away from the subway. The entire stay was comfortable because we were primarily in the rooms for the night so only really needed a bed and a working A/C. The only concern was the shared bathrooms. Thankfully, there are 5-6 bathrooms per floor so when one or two were dirty, there was the option to use one of the others and they were clean. So, apart from the slight issue of having to find a clean bathroom, the stay was excellent and I will stay here again. I would highly recommend the hostel for it's location and inexpensive accommodations.

A bed, a shower, what else could you ask for?

It was cool. They were filming an HBO series when I got there, so I got to meet Zach Galifinakis, better known as Alan from "The Hangover" and also Jason Schwartzman. For the room itself, obviously, you get what you pay for in NYC. However, it was everything I needed, a bed to sleep in, and a shower. Thanks again, Candy Hostel.

become rich before going to NYC

I stayed in a single room, it was so small. I thought I would end up choking but luckily there was an air conditioner in the room. So I have decided to stay. I dont' wanna go back to that hostel again, in fact I dont wanna go to NYC again because of the extreme prices of housing.

Neighbourhood recommendations: manhattan. everything is there.

You don't go to New York City for the Hotel!

Who goes to NYC to stay couped-up in the hotel the whole time?! This was the perfect place to catch some shut-eye, clean-up, and lock-up your stuff. The staff is very layed-back and friendly as are the people staying there. It is a great place for an easy-going couple or chill group of friends to stay because you meet people from all over the globe staying there too! The hotel, like the city, never sleeps! It is very much like staying in a dorm. Check-in times are relatively strict because of the housekeeping hours. The best time for check-in is between 3 and 4 pm. Expect to wait if you arrive before; it's possible that you can be transferred to a neighboring hotel if arriving late. The staff, and guests, do not like rude people, so be nice! I recommend asking for additional towels, sheets, and blanket upon check-in as they are not available after 5 pm. Internet is not free. There are two shared bathrooms on each floor and some cultures are not as clean as others; so if one is dirty, go to the other, or pick another floor! The bathrooms are cleaned twice daily but if you're still worried about the unseen, buy some antibacterial spray. Despite reading reviews including bugs and rats, there were none to be seen. The third floor was legitimate. For the price, limited purpose of the hotel, and great location (safe area, quiet, and extremely close to the subway), this an ideal place to rest your head in between a busy NYC schedule. Book this NYC HOSTEL online!

Getting there: There is not a sign out front and the entrance is really on W 94th St. Most shuttle/cab drivers know where it is.

Best Hostel I've stayed in!

Excelent place, it's not a Hilton, obviously, you get what you pay for! i stayed in a single room, it was really small (barely fitted the bed, my suitcases and a radiator with i did not use 'cause was not cold enough) but great, bathroom always clean, nice place overall... definetly would stay there if i go back to NYC!! really close to subway station, the people in the recepcion were very nice to... if you need wifi, you have it (you have to pay, but still), and there are 4 computers with internet access downstairs that you can use for about 20min/buck... would not hurt to have some sort of free wi-fi though :)
