“Only room in town”
I would NOT stay here again even if it was the only room in town as it was for me last week. For some reason I did not pick up that I did not have a private bathroom - NO room does. I have shared bathrooms before but the one nearest me was so filthy I coudl not. Then my housekeeping consisted of changing linens and towels and nothing else. In fact, who ever "cleaned" left their dark hair (I have light hair) all around and in my sink. Thank god for the sink in my room. The front desk person was pleasant and you sure can't beat the location. If only there was a sense of security that came with it.
“good choice if you don't expect too much”
the location is fine if you want to shop at macy's or see the empire state building - and times square isn't too far either. for the money you pay you can't expect to get the ritz. on first sight i was taken aback and when booking i had overlooked that there were shared bathrooms only but this turned out to be no problem, there were no waiting times. and the noise you hear from the street gives you the feeling of ny traffic. the room was equipped modestly, but it was perfectly clean. if you want to save on your dollars and don't expect too much: go ahead, this is it.
“Great price for location, but too loud to get any sleep”
It's hard to find a hotel in midtown Manhattan for this price point, so this seemed like a great deal. I had come in for the NYC Marathon, and this was in a perfect spot to catch the midtown shuttle (a block or two away) the next morning. However, first the staff gave me a hard time about my reservation, which I had changed a week earlier, but had confirmed with them over the phone twice during the week prior to my arrival. Somehow, they forgot about all of this and I almost ended up without a room. Not really the stress I need the night before a marathon. The bigger problem was that my room was about as quiet as Madison Square Garden after a Rangers goal. My window was thin and faced a busy street, with people yelling, trains passing, and music blairing outside all night long. The noise came right in, as if there was no window at all. I had even brought ear plugs, just in case, but they weren't enough to keep the noise at bay. I eventually did fall asleep, but then a 2 am ambulance siren outside put an end to that effort. If you are a light sleeper and want to get a decent night's sleep, don't stay here. If you are a heavy sleeper, however, who can sleep through anything (and you have patience for disorganized staff), this might be a good place for you. I should mention that the rooms do not have bathrooms. There are shared bathrooms in the hallway. I hadn't expected this. However, I was always able to find an open restroom when I needed one.
“Very Basic”
First room smelled like cigarette smoke and had an ashtray. Second room had defective door lock. Room key didn't work. No hangars. Bed takes up almost entire room. Sink but no toilet or shower in room. Very basic accommodations.
“OK for a hole in the wall”
I should have dished out the extra 100 per night to stay at a real hotel. Scratchy blankets, stiflingly hot (in October), very very noisy - the acoustics allow you to hear every conversation through the walls, and with people coming and going and using the communal bathrooms at all hours, it was impossible to sleep even with earplugs. My card was deactivated every time I left and returned. NO WIFI - in this day and age - and AT THAT PRICE. NO WIFI? They have a dinky "Dialup" computer that looked very untrustworthy. I wouldn't enter my password in that thing to save my life.
“Shared bathrooms”
I booked my hotel stay at the Americana Inn thinking it was a regular hotel. I have stayed in many hotels in NYC and assumed I would have by own bathroom. I didn't think I had to ask. if I was required to share the bathroom with complete strangers. The problem is that when I found out that I would have to share a bathroom, I called the American Inn and they would not give me a refund. In fact, they were totaly unsympathetic and dismissive. Also, the price for the room wasn't that great considering I had to share a bathroom. I found another hotel with my own bathroom for less money. But, Americana wouldn't refund my deposit so I had to pay for two rooms that evening.
“no bathroom in room”
we had to use a community bathroom......disgusting. only had two small towels available. Room so small there was no nightstand.
“Nice, but expensive”
This is exactly what you would expect for a budget hotel - small, basic, but clean and convenient. The staff were friendly, and they let us check in 4 hours early which we really appreciated. Having been to the area before though, I think it was really expensive for what was on offer. We booked at the last minute which didn't help, but I wouldn't stay here again unless we got a much better deal.
“Basic accommodation in good location”
I just needed a place to sleep and the location is convenient. On the plus side, the place is clean and the staff was friendly. However, I have staid in some youth hostels and dorms that were more comfortable.
“Good hotel near Time Square”
This is a well-located hotel with shared bathrooms only. However, shared bathrooms were well maintained and sufficient to serve all rooms. Room was well established but a bit noisy due to street noise.
