"On the way to Palermo, we stayed here."
We were visiting Palermo by train. This is an ideal spot to stay. Breakfast was good. From here you could take the train or interbus to Tarmona.. Walking distance to old Messina city. We had a great time in the hotel. Tram stops just nearby..If you have time could do a tram tour. Save time and energy.

"Nice place close to the Highway"
They gave us a nice room away from the Highway with a good view. The restaraunt was nice but not much else to do in town for one night during the off season.

"Very Nice Hotel"
Stayed for one night as we were catching the hydrofoil to Stromboli the following morning. Rooms much larger than we expected, excellent showers. Nice restaurant just 5 minutes walking away.

"Romantic luxury"
The hotel experience was so romantic - spectacular bougainvillea and jasmine abundantly on the terraces and in the loggia where the pianist serenades every evening. The location is superb, overlooking the sea and mount Etna. The rooms overlooking the sea are glorious, elegantly decorated and bathrooms endlessly filled with Molton Brown supplies. Breakfast takes up an entire room and contains every possible choice except that greater variety of fresh fruit should be available - only prepared pineapple, oranges and melon were served and the same daily for the whole week. The pool is lovley and long and teh pool bar staff very helpful. Pool only open from 9am which seems very late for early swimmers, but the hotel made a helpful concession for us to swim from 8am.

"Clean new hotel close to almost everything"
Overall we liked the hotel. But we certainly made a mistake by booking NH Collection instead of San Domenico Palace. The hotel is located in the middle of very authentic old town. However, when you enter the NH hotel - you can be anywhere in the world - it feels sterile of local spirit - a modern insert into the old beautiful place. I guess some people may like it - we didn't. The staff is pleasing and most of them try hard to be nice and helpful. But staff seems not very experienced. In Italy you cannot get an iron and a board for pressing your clothes. We sent our clothes for ironing and it took a lot of effort to get it back next day. The room is new with well functioning air-conditioner, real blow drier, nice toiletries. The shower was new but didn't work well and the water was spilled outside the shower due to lack of appropriate insulation. The hotel has an outside pool - rather smallish one. The male/female bathroom facility by the pool was labelled in a funny way - it took us about 2 days to figure out which one is which (it is almost like a puzzle - one need to stay there for a while trying to find the sign). There were 2 female toilet rooms - one without door and in the other one the door wouldn't lock. Without the proper labeling - we often met men wondering in the female bathroom and visa versa. The food: We ate only breakfast at the hotel. I found it too starchy - a lot of baked stuff.

"Breath-taking views, wonderful food, great service"
We drove from Catania airport - easy in under an hour - and after a hair-raising drive up to the hotel saw the modest top of the Villa Ducale. Ignore this initial impression as everything about the place is wonderful, from the welcome when you arrive - a quiet conversation on the terrace with a glass of Prosecco and stunning views of the bay and Mt Etna - to the fond farewell as you leave, hoping you'll be lucky enough to return. The feel is much more like being a house guest than staying in an hotel and the staff are endlessly helpful. Each day begins with a fabulous breakfast spread on the terrace and for us usually involved pre dinner drinks in the same place before going down to the town for dinner or staying at Villa Ducale, where the food is marvellous and better than or at least as good as any other place we dined. The free shuttle bus to and from the town is really useful but once or twice we got carried away and missed the last one and took a taxi - no disaster at 15 Euro fixed price. We went to the Caravello beach three times - again a free shuttle bus takes you - and had a very relaxed time. The staff at the beach are really friendly and lunch (especially the fresh fish) is outstanding. We had planned to do a bit of touring around Sicily while we were there but cut right back on our plans so we could spend more time chilling out at Villa Ducale or the beach. Not the cheapest place you'll ever stay but worth every penny. Fabulous.
