“So comfortable”

I stayed at the Punthill Little Bourke for 2 nights, in a 1 bedroom apartment. I was pleasantly surprised about the size of the room, and how comfortable it was. While it was no luxury room, it provided everything I needed and I could have stayed there for ages. I wish that I had been aware that the room also contained a DVD player, as I would have brought some movies with me. The location of the hotel is great. It was about a 10 minute walk to great shops, and is surrounded by restaurants. I recommend the Dumpling Bar which was about 1 minute walk away. There is also a food court across the road.

“It was okay”

Located in the middle of Chinatown so close to the Bourke Street shopping precint and the theatre district. Also, it is a short walk to the restaurants and cafes in Lygon Street, Carlton.

Getting there

Skybus service in Melbourne is excellent. Bus from airport to Spencer Street train station takes around 20 minutes. Small shuttle buses take you to your hotel and are included in the cost which is quite reasonable compared to taxis and other transport services. They will also pick up up from your hotel and take you to the Skybus hub.

“Nice convenient location”

Good overall stay close to restaurants etc in Chinatown and theatres. Got a little bit noisy on Sat night though but didn't bother us too much.

“Perfectly Central Location - great! Will definitely be back!”

Very happy with this hotel! Perfectly central location - right in the heart of Chinatown, and within walking distance to EVERYTHING! great food nearby, trams and trains all within a short walk. Staff was friendly and very helpful. LOVED the room - perfect for our week long stay! it had a washing machine / dryer which we used, (detergent even provided!!!) and a small but perfectly functional kitchenette, which kept the prices down, as we had our breakfast in the room each day before venturing out! We're planning another trip in a few months, and we'll definitely be staying here. Great value for money, and can't recommend it highly enough!

Area recommendations

Love this location right in the heart of Chinatown! saved heaps on transport, as we could walk everywhere! And easy to just jump on a tram if we needed to.

What to pack

We're from Perth, so we definitely feel the cold when we are in Melbourne! Because we love to walk everywhere, a waterproof jacket is a must! And it definitely cools down at night, so i found gloves and a beanie very helpful, too! : ) Wear comfortable walking shoes, as there are so many great laneways, museums, and shopping areas to explore! your feet will thank you!

“Lack of Customer Service from Staff”

Overall this hotel is good, but not great. The customer service experienced from it's staff was average. The manager who was on duty over the Queen's Birthday long week-end clearly showed she did not want to be there. Generally, staff were not very flexible if you required assistance. Eg. not allowed to use the internet only minutes after we had checked out! We needed this in order to find travel alternatives due to volcanic ash cloud airport closure. We were happy to pay for the internet use. Also, the beds have latex mattresses and are quite uncomfortable. We stayed in a queen studio and there was only one bedside table, it would have been nice to have two. The room was cleaned everyday and quiet, so no complaints there. I would choose this hotel again, but only if i didn't have a better option.

“Great stay!”

Great location and so good to have mini kitchen facility! The hotel is in a great spot lots of cafes and restaurants very close by and you can walk everywhere. the room was nice and modern. MY only complaint is 1 reading lamp! We are avid readers and had to ask for another lamp which balanced on a chair. Internet connection is also expensive.

“Great central location”

Was very well located in the Chinatown area of central Melbourne. We could and did walk everywhere we wanted to get to easily. Only downer was that our room overlooked an alley which turned out to be fairly noisy at times. But this was the only quibble otherwise really enjoyed the stay.

Area recommendations

Loved it all, but Southbank restaurants and bars and of course all the usual tourist spots in Melbourne.
