“Definately not a 5 star hotel!!!!”
Definately not a 5 star hotel. Good location and comfortable! Let down in service. I was expecting better service and the rooms to be amazing!
“impeccable service”
We had an enjoyable stay at the olsen in the last week. Our room was promptly changed when a couple of the light fittings didn't work and air conditioning unit noisy- they even threw in a bottle of wine and our new room was in perfect order. Beds extremely comfy and room very clean. We had a studio room which was a bit on the small side but adequate and with everything you'd require for a short stay. Location was great - close to some great restaurants, movie theatre and surrounding melbourne 'villages'. Due to construction next door it was noisy and the rubbish truck was a nuisance at about 4am saturday morning. Overall we would definitely stay again depending on the rates and book the bikes in advance (available for hire and some great cycle paths nearby).
“Perfect artsy hotel in a good location”
The staff was young and hip, and above all they were very friendly. They provided excellent recommendations to restaurants and cafes just down Chapel Street. The hotel was in immaculate condition, and my deluxe suite had nice views of Melbourne CBD from the balcony. The living room was spacious and comfortable, but the bedroom I found was slightly small. There was a mini kitchenette and if I weren't so lazy I would have used some of the included amenities to cook up a feast in the suite. The quasi outdoor pool and fitness center were nice touches, but the temperature of the water was not quite warm enough to be comfortable. I imagine it would be very nice in the summer time though. Overall a great comfortable stay at a funky hip hotel. As long as I didn't have to be in the Central Business District, I'd probably stay here again on Chapel Street.
“Exceptional Hotel- My new home away from home.”
Everything about the Hotel exceeded my expectations. It is a stunning place to stay, I would not hesitate to go back.
“Pure decadence.”
The concept of an Art Hotel is fabulous. It was wonderful being immersed in gorgeous artworks throughout the hotel, including in our room. The commentary about John Olsen and the art books in our room made our stay most interesting. All in all, ten out of ten. The staff were extremely helpful, the pillows were exceptional (loved the pillow menu), the pool was simply gorgeous and the furnishings made for a most comfortable stay. Very impressed and eager to stay at other Art Hotels.
“great”
Only thing that let the hotel down was the hotel restaurant menu and no childrens menu. The menu was very small, which really let this hotel down.
“Wonderful hotel”
I visited Melbourne with my family in mid April 2011 and stayed at the Olsen for 5 nights. We were absolutely delighted with the hotel. The room was spacious and maintained to a high standard, the staff friendly and helpful, the facilties excellent (the pool with its glass walls and base over the street made an impression and the gym is good) and the location very good too - very safe (South Yarra!) and handy for transport. I loved the artwork theme throughout the hotel which makes for a very pleasant change to the usual bland decor one finds all to often in hotels. Worthy of a mention for families is that the hotel is unusual in offering rooms with 2 large beds rather than one double/queen and a pull out or sofa bed for the children. The second bed was also positioned with a dividing wall so you could put the children to bed and still have lights or the TV on for while without disturbing them. I wouldn't hesitate to return except perhaps to try one of the sister hotels to see if they are as good.
“super stylish hotel”
very friendly staff superb location chic and stylish hotel room we just enjoyed every minute of our stay and would definitely recommend this hotel to all of our friends!
“Tranquil elegance at its best!”
Unfortunatley for us my husband and I could only stay for one night at the Olsen. After staying in the city with friends we came to the Olsen for our 20th Wedding Anniversay. We were greeted warmly and professionally when we arrived early. We were surprised to find our room was ready for us at 11am. What a wonderful surprise to find chilled sparking wine and a card from management for our anniversary. Our room was beautiful - tastefully furnished, well equipped, comfortable and quiet. It's true, the beds and pillows are magical! My husband has had back surgery and has severe neck problems and slept like a baby. The bathroom was luxurious (need to change location of toilet roll holder) . The Olsen is easy to reach by train or tram from the city, located across the road is a Woolworths for supplies and of course, right on Chapel Street. The only complaint I have is that the rooms are so nice it is very hard to leave the room!
“Olsen, great location”
Service was excellent and room small but luxurious, would definitely stay again.
