“great place to stay in the heart of Madrid!”
I was very happy with Best Western Arosa. It's a lovely, old building with comfortable, clean (if small) rooms, and a great reception area.
“Happy”
Excellent location in middle of the action. Staff was friendly and helpful.
“Dump in the Center of Madrid”
I would not stay at this hotel again. The interior is very old and has a dirty rusty feeling to it. The room was extremely hot and there was no air-conditioning to cool it down - the only way was to open the window to let the cooler air in which meant having the noise from the street. I stayed here in October so was already cool outside. The hotel advertises free Wi-Fi which was one of the main reasons I stayed here, but the Wi-Fi didn't work - extremely frustrating if you're trying to do work in the evening. I also picked it cause of the gym, but it was only open between 10am - 9pm making it impossible for the typical business traveller to go. The location is of course great - right on gran via - but outside of that, there was little else. Would not stay here again!
“Superb location”
The hotel itself needs some mainteinance (wallpaper, carpet, etc.)... Great showers. the best is the location. You can walk everywhere. Right on the metro line. Breakfast very basic.
“Decent hotel”
This hotel is in a very nice location, just off Gran Via near the metro. Hotel overall was good but rooms and the elevators are very small. Breakfast was adequate. Walls were fairly thin so hope you don't get noisy neighbors.
“Good location.”
The hotel is off of Gran Via and is very close to everything. However, the hotel staff is not all that friendly and the rooms are very small, but clean. The elevators are very small and awkwardly shaped.
“Four Star??? I don't think so!”
We were looking forward to this hotel because of the star rating and the lower price. . . the old adage getting what you pay for sure played out on this hotel. There was no dinner service, breakfast was marginal, and 1 plus elevator for seven floors - very disappointing! No room services at all. I had to run down a coffee pot, but there were no replenishments of coffee, tea, or anything else. I'm not sure just what qualifies as a "four star," but this isn't it! The only good thing was the cental location which was was terrific but the hotel has a "Gran Via" address but was actually fronting on a side street - very misleading. I wouldn't stay here again under any circumstances.
“Not Bad For The Money”
Pretty standard 3-star hotel with one small elevator and one TINY elevator. A bit of a problem during the check-out rush, but otherwise OK. Very nice lobby, and the complimentary champagne at happy hour was nice. The surrounding neighborhood was a little spotty, but there was a Metro station just a block away, right on Gran Via.
“Cheap and good location”
We got this 4 star hotel cheap from expedia. When we arrived, there was scaffolding everywhere so then I knew why. I personnally don't care about that as when I'm traveling, I'm only at the hotel to sleep mostly. We were on our honeymoon though and the double room we booked ended up being two singles. When discussed with the staff, there was nothing they could do about it. Not what we wanted to hear but we dealt with it anyway. My main complaint though was the body hair EVERYWHERE (the cord of the toilet phone is one example!) throughout the room. Disgusting. Location was good. Staff were cordial.
“Worse for Wear”
I paid the extra money for an "Executive" room, so room was nicely appointed, but smaller than I expected. Free mini bar was included in the price of the room, but there wasn't much of a selection in the mini bar. In general though, hotel was in desparate need of improvements. Carpeting in the front entry and in the hallways was dirty and thread bare. There was construction taking place on the outside of the building during my stay. Hotel was wrapped in scaffolding and netting which made the room appear very dark. Location was great. If I were to go back to Madrid, I would opt for a different hotel in the same area.
